Well well, look what we have here….if it isn’t the last blog of Sydney!!! We’ve not got a huge amount of news to report except that basically the whole Sydney part of our adventure is coming to an end! We’ve been partying a lot, and saying goodbye to a hell of a lot of people over the past few weeks, most notably Marc and Merel, and Hazel and Damo!
For Hazel and Damo’s last weekend we really wanted to have a good knees-up, and we definitely succeeded there. It was one of our mates, Helena’s Birthdays that weekend too, and some of the girls had organized a surprise party for her on a party bus that takes everyone to five different pubs in the city, and where we get a free drink in each pub! It was a brilliant night, we couldn’t grace the blog with too many pics from the night because someone gave Helena a blow-up doll as a present, and then we handcuffed him to her arm for the night, so some of the pics are not so blog friendly with all the Sam (that’s what we named the doll) shenanigans!! It was a brill night though!
On the Sunday; Hazel and Damo’s last day, we went to the beach and had a picnic and drank lots of bubbly and ate KING CRISP sambos! YUM!!! Great day!!!
The following morning they hit the road (tear!), we entered into our last week with Marc and Merel, and the new guy who is taking over the lease on the apartment arrived- another Dutchie call Wauterl! At this stage Dave decided it was time for our last Hurrah and booked us into Ravesis hotel in Bondi into a ‘Split-level Executive Suite’, the frickin room was bigger than our whole apartment!!! Amazing!! We had a great night there just chilling eating the yummy room service! That weekend was pretty much just us saying a big goodbye to M&M, we went for drinks on the Friday night and then on the Sunday had a big BBQ on the beach while the sun was setting. We hadn’t planned on it being a big night, but in the end there was a big of an impromptu session back in our house which ended with Dave and Merel playing ‘Chicken’ with the scooters in the hallway! The next morning they were off (big tear!)
and it really began to sink in that we’re leaving soon!
We started to get really excited, but yet at the same time we’re sad that when we finish our travels we won’t be coming back to Bondi- this place really feels like home! So that week Sarah (finally) finished work and the packing/throwing half the crap we’ve accumulated began! The weekend was the Australia Day bank holiday weekend so we had lots of fun festivities planned, on the Friday a big group of us hit the city and went drinking in Hyde Park. It was a great laugh and the following morning the heads were very tender! But there was no time to wallow in our own self-pity, we were off to Randwick to the horse races! It was a sweltering 42 degrees that day and the humidity was so intense, it took us about an hour just to get dressed as we fought each other for the fan! Once safely inside the air-conditioned building of the races we hit the bubbly and had such a fun day, nearly everyone won something; Dave $96 from his first race and then a further $20 from playing ‘Heads or Tails’
with Bergo (who, we must add, was the only person not to win a penny that day!!) and Sarah $42, on a photo-finish race that would have seen her $182 richer if they had picked her horse as the winner…needless to say she wasn’t happy! The day continued back in the Coogee bay Hotel with more drinks and then into the city for Dave (Sarah had faded at this stage) for some more partying! The following day is one we feel we must give a mention to as it was quite an achievement for us both. In one hungover day we managed to watch 4 eps of House, 3 Family Guys, 1 Office, 2 of Lost and The Assassination of Jesse James! What and accomplishment! That Monday was Australia day, a day where Aussies celebrate all things Aussie, with music and dancing and drinking and food and sunshine and BBQs etc etc….but Australia Day in Sydney- absolute washout! The heavens opened at about 3pm and the rain just got heavier and heavier, it was a bit of a disappointment, but we still had a fun day overall!
So our last few days were fairly active to say the least,
by day we chilled out on the beach and by night we spent lots of time with our mates! It started on Thursday night when Dave cooked us all a huge Mexican feast in the girls house, a night that saw us eat a disgraceful amount of food, a meal that didn’t end till 1.30am!!! It was a great night, but I don’t think anyone was hungry until at least 3pm on Friday coz we had eaten so much!! Luckily by the time 8pm rolled around we were starved again, as we were going out for dinner with Bergo and Shibhs to Hurricanes, a steakhouse in Bondi that is infamous for it’s full rack of ribs! Both lads insisted on getting the full rack, and then of course a challenge ensued- whoever eats all their ribs is the best…very original, but it worked! The both polished them off, well almost in Bergos case, he eventually admitted defeat to Dave!
Our last day was spent playing in the sea and finishing our packing. We had reserved an area in our local pub for 5pm and all our mates were coming down for goodbye drinks and yummy tapas! There was a
great crowd down to wish us luck on the rest of our travels (so thanks for that!) and we all had a really good night!! We’ll miss you all loads and are already looking forward to: Coppers Us Next Tuesday!
We’re heading off to Darwin and all around Oz now and we have no laptop anymore coz we sent in home, so make sure to keep up with the blog as we won’t be in touch as much!!
So all that’s left to say is Sydney…DONE!
