Late afternoon sun in Orange
Atop the hill behind our house looking towards Mt Canobolas Gee time flies!
In the blink of an eye, six months passes by. And here we are, less than one week before our next big trip. Our house is being packed up, our bags will be ready for another adventure, and before we know it, we will be boarding the plane to San Francisco.
This summer was a great summer - much better than the year earlier. We actually had nice warm weather instead of rain and floods. The season flew by as we participated in many activities such as Space Racing and the Summer Series of
Orienteering. I also attended
yoga workshops and went to some free photography workshops with the
ABC Open project.
We had a flourishing tomato garden, which had grown to epic proportions over Christmas and completely took over the garden. Next time, we'll plant a few less plants and space them out a bit more with proper support for the plants. But we enjoyed hundreds of cherry tomatoes, yellow and red Pineapple Tomatoes, the purple-green Black Russians, and a few standard red Urbana tomatoes. And possibly a few others - the labels washed off the seedling trays in the first rain back in spring,
Dragon Boating Carnival
The annual dragonboating carnival held on Lake Canobolas in summer. so we were just taking guesses as to what we actually planted!
We enjoyed plenty of barbecues and dinners outside, and relished the late sunsets. Dave attended the weekly mountain bike races out in Kinross State Forest while I relaxed at yoga. We went for long walks, frisbee in the Botanic Gardens and local parks, and managed a few swims at the newly renovated Orange Aquatic Centre.
There was the
Flix in the Stix event, which promised to be a great evening of picnicing in the Botanic Gardens while watching some short films and listening to a bush poet and the band The Whitlams. But Mother Nature had other ideas and it poured rain, complete with spectacular lightning and thunder. We didn't end up going to the rescheduled event...
And of course, there were the monthly the farmer's markets, and the
Slow Summer Festival, which included some orienteering events, early morning gym classes in the park, and other events at Lake Canobolas, such as the Dragonboating carnival.
There were also the Brass Band Celebration in Cook Park in March. Last year we made it to the parade, but this year I managed just to catch the end of the celebrations after
Flix in the Stix
The annual Flix in the Stix was held in the Botanic Gardens. Unfortunately it rained - poured actually. It was rescheduled... a photography workshop.
With so much to do, it was no wonder summer flew by!
Now as autumn arrives, the leaves change colour, the nights are cooler, daylight savings ends, and we pack up our house. We are a bit sad to miss most of the events of the F.O.O.D. Festival and the Orange Apple Festival, as we always enjoy the occasion to enjoy delicious meals prepared with local produce. We'll perhaps squeeze in a few events in between the car trips to the storage shed.
But now we are off to explore another part of the world. And we'll be back! Stay tuned for stories of our "USA: A-OK! Part Deux" adventure!
