The Blue Mountains actually get there name from the blue vapours that are given off by the Eucalyptus trees. So it finally actually happened, I have left sydney well it was only for 2 days but i'm back now. I went out to the Blue mountains which are about 2 hours east of Sydney, but they aren't just a small collection of mountains, the whole of the national park of the Blue mountains is about the same size as Holland, they it's quite a large area. I actually went on an organized tour, not quite upto doing things on my own yet. But we had the craziest tour guide, i think I've met some pretty insane people in my time, but she really was head and shoulders above any of them. And her name was Ned from Zimbabwae. But we all met and 7 in the morning to leave, a time unheard of by me unless it's still part of the night before.
We were supposed to be going to view wild kangaroo's, but we had heavy rain a couple of days before and so weren't able to get across a bridge to that part of the park. But ned she'd take us to a billabong later instead.
So to our first walk of the day, and on the way
ned start's talking about how they'd found an ill blue tongue lizard, so she took it but it died. So yeah, what would u do, she disected it to see what was wrong, but couldn't find anything wrong. So what next she skinned it, and we're all thinking she's making this stuff up, but no, she had the actual skin on the bus, so from there we were all a bit weary of her. Our first walk was at Wentworth falls. Lots of waterfalls and different vegetations, and change in weather was very quick. But was good to get some exercise but as we were going down the mountain you just come to realise that you're going to have to walk back up. There were some fantastic views, and you don't realise that you are over 1000 metres high.
So then we were haeding to the billabong for lunch, which ned had only been to once before. Get to a gate, had a sign on, "Private Property, No Entry", So then she jumps out, and we're all wondering what she's doing, and see her opening gate and we drive through, and then close it behind us. This is all dirt
road now in a mini-bus, and we're speeding along, and ned shouting about how much fun this is, and then puts her foot down harder, I thought my driving could be a little crazy, but i feel lucky to get out of that one alive. We had lunch and then a quick dip in the billabong, but we did see an underwater snake, so we made a bit of a quick exit from the water.
We then headed to Katoomba, where we did a scenic walk down into Jamieson Valley through rainforest and more waterfalls. There you are able to view the 3 sisters formation of rocks, which is of aboriginal myth. But from the bottom of the mountain, we're taking the apparently steepest railway in the world. Much like a rollarcoaster, but you just go up, and it's backwards, practically vertical, oh yeah, and there were no seatbelts just a chain down the side, nice and safe. The girl i was sat next too was a shaking mess by the end. After this we went to the YHA wher only 5 of us from the tour were staying, and my first time of actually going into a shared dorm

It seems alot smaller in this photo than I remember room. But it all worked out fine, 5 beds, and only me in there. So no worries about other people's snoring. But dropped my stuff in the room, cleaned up a little bit, decide to look around the town a bit, very much like a village in England, but after being in the city for so long it was a bit weird. But find the nearest pub, to have a beer after all my exursion of the day, and 2 irish girls from the tour had already beaten me there. I ain't passing judgement. But we had a few beers and trying to figure where to eat and what's going on the next day. 2 other girls had been dropped off with us, and they were planning to do mountain biking, but that just sounds like too much hard work. Went and had some nice thai food, come out of the restaurant at about 11, and eveerything is closed, and is like a ghost town now. So really had to go to bed.
The next day I had decided that I was going to catch a bus to Blackheath and do some trails down there for a few hours. So
caught the bus, and got dropped in the middle of nowhere at tourist info place, so I start to walk, getting a sense of adventure out on my own. Start walking, I guess this tarmacked walk way will lead meround to the start of the trails. So after about half an hour along this walk way, i do arrive at the start of these other trails, but they've been shut, cause of damage caused by bush fires, so yeah that was alittle dissappointing, and headed back to katoomba, and waited around for the bus back to Sydney. Different tour guide on the way back, which was a bit of a relief.
So am back in Sydney, and been working. Quite an active weekend, we had a Punk weekender at the pub, so we had some characters in the pub. But one guy we had cut off, but he was still there 2 hours later and had a beer in his hand, so chris ourdoorman, asks him to leave. And trying to get him out, and the drunk guy starts coming out with this racist stuff, these other punters are asking me where there are no cameras so they can 'take

Aboriginies would sit here at sharpen the points for their spears and knifes care' of him. But chris keeps really calm, and gets him a little way up the street, just by coincidence, 3 policemen walk round the corner at this point. So they start talking to him, and they're trying really hard not to arrest him, and go to leave him, and he continues his abuse at them, so they go back, and he trys to throw a punch at one of them, big mistake, and by this point pretty much the pub is empty cause everyone is outisde watching whats going on, and start chanting as they arrest him and take him round to their car.
So now I've been out of the city, have started thinking more about moving on, so watch this space!
