Surfs up!
Not the best waves in Oz, but they did for today. It doesn"t matter where you are in the world, the mundane jobs still need to be done, but I guess ironing with the door open and listening to the sound of Cicadas isn't so bad.
Josh arrived Thursday so I am very happy to have another chuck back in the nest ( I am learning the lingo!) and it wasn't long until he was out on the surf which did the job for the smile factor. Sam, I wish you and Eva were here too but know you will have an amazing time in France and not long until you are here anyway. It gets harder and harder to all be together at the same time, but somehow, it all seems to work out.
It is now Christmas eve, the sun is shining and the forecast good for tomorrow. I can hear our neighbours little girls singing Christmas carols. All the shopping is done and beach chairs are ready in the car. We picked up our "new" hire car Thursday and now have a true Ozzie beast (think our neighbours must think we change it when it gets dirty, as have lost count at how many we've had now).
North Narrabeen Beach
This is the pretty little beach nearest to where we live. Anyway, we can see some good road trips coming up in this one and Julian will certainly have a comfier drive to Canberra when he goes next which has been a real slog in the little cars we have been issued previously. It looks like Julians work are opting for us staying on a long term Hertz hire so I am sure it will change again soon. I am the only one who has to swap between the manual and the automatic on a regular basis, which has caused the odd near disaster!
Next doors chickens now regard our front garden as theirs and I love them. I have forgiven them for ruining my vegetable patch and guess talking to the hens is what you have to resort to when you have no mates!
Charlie, the handiman came to fit fly screens this week and gave me a big lecture on 'not feeding the cockatoos if we still wanted our outdoor furniture left'. I have had to reluctantly take his advice, but have been to the pet shop to by some special nectar mix that will hopefully encourage the 'nice birds' as he put it. These are the
Lorikeets and Rosella's. None so far, but fingers crossed. The cockatoos weren't impressed at all that I now shoo them away and have been sworn at in cockatoo speak many times since.
This morning, a huge beigy/pink spider walked across the car bonnet whilst I was driving along. I wanted to have 'a bit of a moment', but had to drive. I am not normally a wuss, but was trying to think if it could come in through the vents? Anyway, it ended up in the side mirror on my side and when I went to get out it came out too. Josh went round and tried to knock it off with a wetsuit. but instead of scuttling off, it stood its ground, made itself look as big as poss and raised its two front legs in anger. Think it was one of the nasty ones that we havent really seen til then. Yuk, yuk, yuk!!!!! He did knock it off in the end and we thought it was dead, but when we came back it had gone (god knows where, just hope not back on/in the car!).
Anyway, moving swiftly on, this afternoon's plan is for Josh
to meet Ebony when her last pre-xmas shift finishes at 5.30 and then heading straight to the beach with boards. This should cheer her up as she has worked practically every day for 2 weeks. Luckily, her shifts will calm down now and we will be able to have some holiday time all together, but we are liking the family discount, so Ebz, you have to stay there😊
We were all thinking how two years ago we spent Christmas in Quebec with our very good friends, Penny & Paul. It was minus something ridiculous, we were skiing/snowboarding, having sleigh rides through the snow covered forests, glissarding, and going back for G&T's in the outdoor jucuzzi with the snow falling around. We couldn't be experiencing anything more of a contrast this year. Amazing.
Have had some great emails, phone calls, facebook messages etc from loads of you. Thank you so much and watch this space. Only one more sleep before Santa comes. MERRY CHRISTMAS xxxxxxx
