Love your pics Hi Matilda
My aunty, Marjory Moss, sent me your blog. I was originally born in Liverpool but moved to NZ in the 70's when my dad (aunty Marj's brother) passed away. I grew up in Greymouth, on the West Coast of the South Island but have been living in Perth, Western Australia since 1986. It's always nice to see some new pics of the stunning countryside - WA is so flat and I really miss the mountains (but not so much the rain). Have a wonderful tiki tour around the country for the rest of your holiday.
Hi Allison. Oh, lovely to get your message and very fond of Len & Marjorie who have been wonderful neighbours in Christchurch UK. We absolutely loved NZ and can understand why you miss it although havent yet managed to get to WA. It did rain a lot though!!
We have been back now for a few weeks and had visitors so behind in completing the blogs. Just about to try to complete them for that trip. There was so much to see and do. Best wishes and hope you enjoy the rest of the posts.
I love the image of you doing all that NZ stuff and then stoking up with a bit of Blighty through Downton Abbey! (Oh, and also the Puky Twizzle names....) The colour of the lake is amazing, reminds me of the china clay pits on the way to Lee Moor but much bigger.
Hi Mary. Ha, ha, watching Downton from a camper van on the edge of a lake in New Zealand was a bit bizarre. Glad you've enjoyed the blogs. Just about to try and complete them as have a bit of time spare. xxx
Doyles Your blog reminded me of a winery trip to SE Australia ( Lakesentrance) Where and delightful couple took pity on us when the captain of the boat took the rise by giving us Poms a brick as a lifejacket !!! We had 3 very nice days with this couple playing golf etc. When asked their occupation they said they sold fish and chips in Sydney.Their names were Tim and Beth Doyle !!! It seemed at that time Tim owned the one on circular quay and the prince of Wales had recently visited. They invited us to join them in the family Christmas party with a traditional family walk round the rocks.Sadly Tim has since died and we never took them up on the offer but they gave my brother a great free lunch and took him into the kitchens and Tim cooked it specialy for him. Lovely family.
Doyles Oh, Ann, what an amazing story as yes, really famous Fish & Chips, eh? Well, it all seems to be thriving still. The ones at Watsons Bay seemed much more sedate than the one on Circular Quay that always seems to be buzzing whatever the time of year. Wow, fancy that and great for Andrew, but a shame you didn't manage to take them up on that invite yourself.
Latest Blog That sounded like a very good day out. The photos are lovely - Ozzies must have really big appetites 'cos that looked like a huge portion of fish and chips!!
Doyles Hi Barb. It was a great day out and yes, a huge portion and we were stuffed. Most people Ive come across here all seem to do loads of exercise though so think most people burn it off! Hoping this is really helping Mum & Dad see what we've been up to and feeling like we're not so far away:) xx
Day trips in Sydney Nice one Matilda. What you need to do next is the night tour of the city, King's Cross etc....some pretty good bars down that way. Still raining back here in UK, but no earthquakes!
Thanks for the advise Think we will have to try that once we have younger members of the family with us, VERY soon. Sounds like a great idea. Love to all xxxxx
Fraser Island Sounds a wonderful trip but I think I will Stick to sunny Mudeford.Look at HSC and Avon beach websites. No crocs or sharks or reptiles there and the only dingoes Daisy and Alfie and Hazel!!I have used those dunnies in th red desert. They are DEEP !! Ann
on safari Hi guys,
What an adventure, sounds like you did well to get back out again! Reminds us of when we were in Oz two years back, we had a similar trip (without your mishaps) in Kakadu - Crocodile Dundee country. We were in a Toyota landcruiser & sometimes the terrain was a little scary to say the least, though the vehicle was brilliant. Like you, we saw some amazing wildlife, even Jake & Freya were impressed. Just coming out of a cold spell here in Devon, though we have avoided the arctic conditions of further north. Just heading off for a Dartmoor walk, in training for the Two Moors Way in May - a 120 miler from Wembury to Lynmouth. Julie is in serious training for the Isles of Scilly Gig championships around the same time. Otherwise all OK back here - looking forward to the Spring. All the best N&J
LOVING IT! I am really enjoying your blog Linda, please keep it up. Glad you all enjoyed your first Christmas in Oz. Saw Barb & Steve on New Year's Eve at the Horseshoe and they said how lovely it was speaking to you at Christmas.
Lots of Love
Shirley xx
PS Hope you get that camera sorted out - if it makes you feel any better I am also 'doomed' with cameras x
Glad you're enjoying the blogs. They are fun to do and will be a good way of keeping a record of what we have done at the end of our stay.Sorry to hear you too have had past problems with cameras. Hopefully will get mine replaced soon:)
Christmas in Buckland Hi guys,
Was hoping to paste in a photo from our Christmas here but haven't quite worked out how to do it yet (any tips?). Anyway, ours was a bit more traditional than yours of course but good fun as always, especially with Jake back from Uni winding up Freya as usual, & Alex & his girlfriend down from Bristol. Managed a couple of walks out in the rain & mud - sounds a bit like Sydney! Lots of eating (plentiful sprouts, even some left over!) & drinking, some of the following mornings were "lazy" to say the least. Aiming to "dry out" now for January. Happy New Year to all.
N&J & gang
Christmas in Buckland Hi there. No have no tips on uploading pics from your end on here but please keep trying as would be lovely to see. Your Christmas sounds fab too and really pleased you managed to all get together. Big hugs from us all and stay in touch xxxx
When the opportunity to spend 2 years in Oz arose through Julians job, I can't say I was immediately thrilled. I think we sometimes like to wrap our security blankets round us and find it easier to stay with what we know. But on the 1st September 2011 we found ourselves winging our way to Sydney and better late than never I am finally getting round to setting up a proper blog site to record our adventures whilst here. ... full info
