Our time in Coota really was amazing. I can’t quiet find the words to describe it all, parts were surreal, sometimes I felt like I was actually outside of my mind watching & enjoying seeing us both be normal & free again.
I was scared it would fly by and it would all be over before I had a chance to appreciate it, time was so good to me though. Wherever I was it was like nothing else mattered and I was able to completely immerse myself in every moment.
We flew into Melbourne Airport on Friday 17th September with Jetstar, and had a connecting flight with them straight to Sydney. On landing, we found out that the connecting flight had been cancelled and their option for us was to fly at night - didn’t sit well with our very tight schedule, so we opted to fly to Wagga instead.
Jackie & Ben met us at the airport; we went back to their place & hung out for the afternoon. It was really lovely, the best first afternoon we could have hoped for our time in Australia.
There was a beautiful chicken dish waiting for us at Kathy &
The Boys
Matty, Tim, AT, Luke, Ben, and Al Steve’s. It was so much colder than I had anticipated, I braved the chill and went and visited my girls who had driven from the Hunter for the weekend with me in Coota.
Both Luke and I had admitted to a little anxiety we had about spending time around our friends & family again. Our life here in Hanoi is fairly secluded, and the people we spend most of our time with are non English speakers. I was scared to find Luke hiding in a corner not being able to cope with all of the English conversation.
Thankfully that didn’t happen. We were thriving around being around Australian’s again. It was such a novelty even being in the airport listening to the voiceovers.
We met Luke’s cousins, Dean & Trent - & Trent’s wife Louise for lunch at The Globe on Saturday afternoon. My friends from the Hunter came a little later, as did our friends Megan & Brent who Luke worked with at the snow. It was such a fantastic time, catching up, eating good food, & drinking good wine.
We went back to Southfork, where Luke’s mates were, for the afternoon. My girls were so intrigued
Family
Myself, Kathy, Steve & Luke by the Canola Crops, it was in full bloom & so beautiful. We went for a walk with Brent & Megan to get a better look. Thought it would be fun to go into the crops - it was just beautiful. The sun was shining through a sky full of clouds, making the Canola extra bright, perfect afternoon to spend with your best friends.
We’d organised a party at The Globe that night, all of Luke’s family & friends came. It was a little too far to drive for my family, but not for Sharna, Jaymelee, Tristah & Sarah. The braved the 6hr drive, made a weekend out of it & saw Coota in a different light to the locals.
Early in the night, it was great to see everyone and time went quickly trying to say Hello to everyone. Nearing the end of the night, there were only a handful of us left and my memory is a little hazy from about 12pm on. We woke up in a single bed at a Motel in Coota, by Ben who was telling us that we had to check out by 10.30am. There was a heap on the floor
Lovely Monday
Charlie, Me & Hannie that I discovered was Ollie. In true form, I’d lost my jacket, and shoes, but had gained an extra large grey jumper, and oversized ugg boots.
We went to Aunty Sandra’s for Claudia’s 1st Birthday. The days were so perfect in Coota, it’s was just bliss to be feeling normal again - sitting in a backyard, eating homemade birthday cake and chicken, and pasta salad.
Luke spent that Sunday with the boys at The Globe; their Sunday Session was a big one and ended with me brining Matty & Alex home at 2.30am from Virginia’s where Luke was passed out in Marty’s bed.
Monday was, again, another beautiful day in Coota. Renee stayed over with the girls on Sunday, and left for work in the morning, so Kathie & I got to babysit for the day. I loved it. Playing with Charlotte, and her imaginary friends, & having lovely cuddles with 7mth old Hannah.
I caught the night train from Coota to Hornsby at 1.50am Tuesday morning & left Luke for a relaxing couple of days with Jok & the friends he didn't have a chance to catch up with over the weekend.
