Wednesday 10. Early morning estuary expedition with Jim. He forgot the fishing tackle so we walked. Kingfisher, terns and 150 small black cormorants floating, half submerged - they don't have oil on their feathers to keep them dry. Fabulous sight. Spruiked Ballina. OK. Went to carpark again for good result. Stuck five or six. Light easterlies, very nice. Dots, 'they're naked chicks on the beach'. Heaps cool. Guy from 'castle' - Newcastle. Cousin Jim speaks strine and makes up his own words. He's cut cause his cousin says he's got such an okker accent.
Thursday 11. Finally saw the whip bird (makes whipping sound). Black with small crest slanting back off head, white throat. Spruiking Byron fantastic. Newspaper article appeared in black and white. 'Northern Star' covers a wide area including Lismore.
