Well the Blue mountains really took me by surprise, it was not like I remembered at all. We set off, Mum, Col, Deb and I early on Monday the 18th, we headed to the Zig Zag Railway near Lithgow. We relaxed on the short train journey, taking in the views and enjoying the old train carriages. In the afternoon we headed towards Katoomba where we stayed. We stopped by at the old Hartley village, only a few buildings in the street really, it was good to see how the old houses would have looked here as the early settlers came out. As we headed through Mt Victoria we stopped at Sunset Rock lookout for our first glimpse of the vast valleys, in Mt Victoria we went to an old museum at the railway station that had a mish mash of old things that have been collected over the years, was an interesting stop. On to Blackheath we went to Govetts leap to look out in to the Grose Valley, this really was a brilliant lookout, mum couldn't come too close to the edge, she reversed in at one stage for a photo but that was as close as we could get
her, on to Hargreaves Lookout we had views of the Megalong Valley.
We had a brilliant time at the Jenolan Caves, they really were spectacular. We went through two caves, the Lucas Cave and the Temple of Baal. They were magnificent and the park does a really good job of making the journey through with great lighting and sound to make it even more spectacular.
Near our cottage in Katoomba was Echo point where we went for a look at the famous Three Sisters, we then took the Skyway accross the gorge, and with its glass bottom you get a good guide as to how high it really is. There was plent of Cockatoos flying below in the gorge. We took the very vertical Skytrain down to the valley floor where there is very nice elevated walkways a few metres off the ground which enable you to take in the forest and go for a nice stroll. We completed the circular route with the cable car up. The temperature was really heating up that day, so we went to Leura to have some food. Mum was dying for the shops but I think we all ate too much for lunch.
We had a nice time in the cottage, it was quite quaint and had a few nice cup of teas there and had a couple of nice nights out, once at the old pub in town and another at RSL.
Our final day heading home we went to Norman Lindsays house (who was an artist and poet) to have look around, his studio was pretty impressive and is still in the same state it was when he passed away. We also took a look at the Wentworth Falls. The Blue mountains really were impressive, the massive sandstone cliffs and the vast open valleys are a sight to see.
