Thats right - Sideways. If you saw the movie "Sideways" then thats where we are now - at Buellton which is an hour or so north of Santa Barbara, drawing closer to LA as the excitement level increases for the boys. All they're interested in is having the crap scared out of them on roller coasters. Susan and I just want to drink wine and try and escape their reality! Going back though, after we didn't see any bears at Shasta we moved on to Lassen Volcanic Park hoping to see some there. Again we did the mountain climbing thing up to about 8000 ft on Mt Lassen and up there they have this volcanic area which is really hot and smelly - Seth was blaming me for all the bad smells going around until ... read more

I leave tonight on the bus for Montreal then over the border to Albany, NY to see my other American/Aussie cousin. Mel and I parted company in Toronto; she to move on to Montreal and moi to come over here to Moncton to vist my niece who decided to fall in love with a Canadian!! Mushin' North America » United States » Alaska » Girdwood By furino and jono July 2nd 2007 furino Good times! Took a helicopter up to Punchbowl glacier to a sled dog kennel where we met our musher Dario. Dario's a nine time Iditarod veteran, and runs the kennel up on the glacier from May - Sept each year. Since his entire life basically revolves around these dogs we learned a ton about them and about the sport in general. When the first Iditarod was in 1973 run it took the winner 21 days to complete, now it's 8 or 9 days! The dogs were incredibly f... read more

I felt refreshed and ready to start a new chapter of my journey heading to North America. I didn't feel so refreshed by the time I got there. Nevertheless I carried on like a true alcoholic and went out for drinks with some local couch surfers when I arrived. Friday I caught up with my old Today Show co-worker Pat who now resides in Toronto. After several pitchers I moved on to a birthday celebration for another local. After a 7am finish my jet lag was in overdrive. After a few hours sleep I went out for a Vietnamese lunch with Pat, his Canadian wife and my host. That night we went to a house party where a lot of the guests were in the film industry - some interesting stories. I also met one ... read more

Untitled To get from Ten Sleep to Buffalo, Wyoming (and then to where we are now -- South Dakota's Black Hills -- you have to travel over Big Horn Mountain and climb to 9,966 feet through Powder River Pass. While it is only about 70 miles, it took us nearly 2 hours with Millie traveling winding uphill mountain roads for half of that time. Alot of anxiety on our part for Millie, especially when we needed to stop half-way up the mountain because of some new, nasty sounds coming from her. After a rest, though, she did fine and we had a long stop in Buffalo before finishing the Wyoming leg of the trip. There are more hills than people in Wyoming. We saw antelope and cattle along the drive and had what felt like a ... read more

Katherine here--Yesterday was non-stop activity. We started the day at the Circle Line which is a huge boat that goes all the way around Manhattan. A tour guide points out all the buildings and areas on the island as well as New Jersey, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and all surrounding islands. By the way, the tour is three hours and starts at 9:30. We left Connecticut at 7:05 and got to the pier at 8:30 since it is a popular tour and may have long lines. But we were about the second people there so we didn't really need to worry about that. It was a really great tour and we got about a million and five pictures between me and my mom. Right after the tour, we walked down 42nd to meet Phil for ... read more

We flew home yesterday. Got in at 700PM which to us was 100 AM Germany time. We finally got back home at 1100. On our way home we started our descent and I was able to see the ground. We flew over the Susquehanna River and Wrightsville!! Our travels home went very smoothly. It is good to be home. I missed Jack and Mark. When we came out at the airport Jack ran up to me and wouldn't let go. This morning I awoke and was sick-turns out Joann and Mitchell are too. We think we got food poisoning from the airplane food. Our last day in Germany we went to another castle that was near Tracy's house and then played games. Other than that we packed and cleaned up to come home. Tracy and her ... read more
