Carrizo Badlands
Three images stitched to create a panorama. We made a day trip through a section of Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, a 92 mile drive passing remote canyons, eroded badlands, and sharp desert peaks.
Driving west from El Centro, CA, we entered the desert park at Ocotillo and headed north through barren bajadas and alkali playas, broken badlands, abrupt canyons filled with graceful palms, and rock-rimmed mountain ranges. And cactus; plenty of cacti.
Several trails and washes along the route claimed historic connection with the famous Butterfield Overland Stage line of 1858.
The best photos captured were merged into a gorgeous panorama of the Carrizo Badlands.
Did you know that “Borrego” is a Spanish term for bighorn sheep, symbolizing its wild desert heart? Yep.
We purposefully scheduled Borrego Springs as a way point in our route. As we drive about, we keep a look out for campground / rv park candidates for our next snowbirding adventure.
The Springs at Borrego is the nicest RV Resort we have seen, and the most expensive. It is a shame, or maybe a good thing for our bank roll, that we don’t play golf. The view of the snow dusted horseshoe mountains that rim the community is exquisite, and we did not hear a single jet plane. But the planes fly on Sunday in El Centro either.
Tonight is bingo night at Rio Bend. We are going to have a go at it again. It is a fun way to meet other folk staying at the park. Tomorrow, I have a shuffle board challenge in the afternoon. This morning, Nan did water aerobics in the pool. Wednesday evening is a community Mexican fiesta dinner.
Thursday may be a day trip to Joshua Tree.
Stay tuned.

Ocotillo
When we were living in Tucson some people actually made living fences from the Ocotillo. Hope you get some photos with blooms as they are so beautiful. Mexican food is wonderful wish we were there. Me with my bongos and Claudia with her tamborine playing to the beat of the mariachi band. Oh what fun and laughter : good food and good friends
