"Activities you will usually see me take part in are anything potentially dangerous, sporty and in outdoor settings. I am also a keen photgrapher." Tips and ideas from the people who have been there and done it!
Name: Rain Guo
Age: 23
Occupation: Freelance traveller 1. What is the best thing about attending camp? I get to do my favourite sporting activities, be 12 again, hanging with the kids. I love the notion that I could actually inspire or motivate and somehow leave a footprint in their lives. The other bonus is that some of the kids parents invite you to stay at their homes after to camp, this helps a lot with accommodation fees!
2. What type of travelling did you do post camp? Mostly backpacking, checking out various sporting activities like surfing. This summer moved quite a bit down the West Coast. Checking out the different scenes because each town can vary greatly.
3. Would you recommend anywhere to stay or go? SAN DIEGO/ San Francisco/ Miami/ British Columbia
4. During your breaks at camp what was your favourite activity and why? No favourite activity varies from day to day. I like to take pictures so there was lots of opportunities for me to take some great scenery shots.
5. Where is your favourite place in Alice Lake, Vancouver,Canada
"I took this while I was kayaking and admiring the view...but then again I did almost freeze to death and nearly run over by the ferries" America and why?
San Diego, it's warm, it has a hippy vibe. It has SURFING! And bike/skateboard friendly, which is a must for me.
6. Any travel tips? Travel light, check out WWOOF.org for free room and board in exchange for work. It is also a great way to meet new people who have the same interests as you you can recharge for a bit then move on to your next location.
Don't pack all your cash together, for obvious reasons if you lose a piece of luggage or you are pick pocketed.

2. Where did you travel to post camp? Post camp I went to San Fran yet again as well going to New York, Washington DC, Miami and Fort Lauderdale. However after camp it was a bit more luxurious travelling than it had been the rest of my trip

"I have recently finished travelling around for my gap year. I visited some gorgeous exotic places as well as the plain weird. During that time I visited 27 cities in 7 countries including Africa, India and America." as I was staying with friends and in hotels, which was a bit of a difference to hostels and camper vans!!!
3. Would you recommend anywhere to stay or go? Well I absolutely loved San Francisco and the hostel at Fisherman’s Wharf was really good. Washington was also an interesting spot but think if you want to see other people there you really need to visit during the week not the weekend!! As for New York what can I say I've been a few times now and would go again any day its one of my favourite cities in the world. Then I loved the feeling that I could have been mingling with the rich and famous in Fort Lauderdale as well as partying all night in Coyote Ugly bar!!!
4. During the breaks at camp what was your favourite activity and why? During the breaks one of my favourite times was probably when a few of us went to Santa Cruz and dressed up to have our photos taken on a rainy day that gave me a brilliant funny photo memory!! I also loved going to San Fran for the public holiday and been able to watch
Visiting the Florida Everglades
"Me and others travelled to Florida after camp, its an amazing place but was pretty disappointed not to spot any alligators" the fireworks and just have a really good, relaxed time enjoying the city and all it has to offer!!
5. Where is your favourite place in America and why? New York is probably my fave place in America it has such a good atmosphere both day and night and has variety so that you can never get bored. I just love it the shops, the sightseeing the nightlife it’s amazing!!
6. Any tips on travelling? Make the most of the opportunity to visit a new place and make sure you do as much as you can as you may never get the chance to visit again!! Most important I too get out there and make as many new friends as possible there are some amazing people out there waiting to meet you!! Plus it always comes handy, if you ever need somewhere to stay in another country. So just go and have the best time of your life!!

"I initially came to camp for the horse riding programs but I got to do so much more, including surfing and sleep beneath the stars. I would recommend it to anyone" from my own country! Learning invaluable information on travelling around the world from people I met at camp.
2. Where did you travel to post camp? Post camp I went to Mexico for vacation. I stayed in a hostel called the Kingdom Hostel, awesome facilities and very it was cheap.
3. Would you recommend anywhere to stay or go? I would say if you needed some pampering after the dust and grit at camp go to Santa Monica/LA to soak up some much needed sun after all the fog and get some city life back into you!
But it you wanted more out doors I would go to Yosemite National Park (still on my list of to do!) Here you can rock climb, kayak and horseback ride.
4. During your breaks at camp what was your favourite activity and why? Going to the beach, to relax of course and bogey boarding!
5. Where is your favourite place in America and why? I haven't been to too many places, but definitely loving New York City right now!
6. Any travel tips you have picked along the way? Pack light because you can always shop on the way. Take advantage of the free breakfasts at hostels, I always stock up on Bread rolls and cereal bars so it saves me buying snacks during the day.
