APRIL 2007
We are about to start off on our trip south and since we have neglected the blog will let you know what we have been up to since our last entry.
Left Gold Canyon, Arizona, on April 2, 2007. Due to the weather report to the North, we decided to head South to Tucson and then east on Highway 2 to New Mexico. Stayed the first night in Dexter, New Mexico, and then followed the mighty Rio Grande River to Albuquerque, where we parked the motor home and took a side trip to Santa Fe, which we had heard so much about.
We started our journey again, traveling along Highway 40 (Old Route 66) and enjoyed seeing the old parts of this piece of history and very glad to have the new highway for the motor home. Because we had been gone so long we decided to fore go our plans to stop at Graceland and the Grand Old Opry on the way home for another year.
Our other stop of interest was in Oklahoma City, OK, where we visited the site of the bombing disaster where they have erected a beautiful and
emotional memorial. We were both very impressed and moved. Our next stop for the night was in St. Louis, Missouri, The weather to this point was becoming gradually cooler, but still no snow. In Indianapolis, Indiana, on Easter Monday we had a mishap with our hitch and rather than wait to have it fixed, we decided to drive separately the rest of the way. So armed with the walkie talkies we started out expecting to stop for the night. Unfortunately as we got in to Michigan we realized that campgrounds were not open in April yet. So we just kept going, had a quick and easy entry back into Canada and ended up at Nancy’s sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Ken at Ingersol near London Ontario. Spent a week visiting and then on to Ottawa.
MAY 2007 While searching for a park to summer at we discovered one of Ottawa’s best kept secrets, Ottawa Municipal Campground which is just a beautiful park. We move in the 1st of may and stayed until closing on the 9th of Oct..
Shortly after returning to Ottawa Doug took a contract job
for the company he worked for, 4 days a week so he was quite happy to do that and I was happy to be a “kept” woman for the summer. We still had lots of time to do some fun things, golf a bit and visit friends and family.
We were glad to be home for the christening of our new grandson Ben. A great family day, he was very entertaining in the church. Nancy made his christening suit from her wedding dress. He is sure a sweety, and despite his medical problem is thriving and happy.
JUNE 2007 - We spent three weeks in Bon Echo Provincial Park with our friends Al and Ora. Doug had to commute on the w/e’s but it was fun and the kids and families were all up at different times for a visit. The weather was great while we were there.
JULY 2007 We spent two weeks in Nova Scotia with David and Kristy, also visiting friends who live there. Had a superb lobster dinner with the whole gang. Mary and Gary who we have become good friends with came
down for a w/e too. After next year we plan to spend some summers down there as we love it so much and want to see more of David and Kristy. May get that in-law-suite built yet eh David!!
September was the happy occasion of our nephew Scott and Robins wedding in Ingersoll. Very different and beautiful, had a great time. After that Nancy stayed and went to Sarnia to spend some time with sister and brother-in-law Mary and Don and flew home the next week.
We enjoyed the rest of the fall and got to a couple of Senators games, played lots of cards and spent time with the kids. Doug was able to hunt this year which he always enjoys!
So we have made the first leg of our journey back to Arizona as far as London and Tuesday we leave for the second part, hopefully as far as Indianapolis and hope to be in Gold Canyon the first or second of Dec. Our address and phone number should be the same but will send any changes.
We will be in touch soon and hope you all have a great
winter.
