Cody and I are both in somewhat of a transition period in our lives and decided, why not make the most of it and travel our beautiful country?? I finished up an 11-month environmental AmeriCorps program in Tennessee this past July, and have been spending the past two months traveling, adventuring and enjoying time with people who mean the most to me. The reason for no rush into a grown up job is because I’ve received a Peace Corps nomination to serve 27 months in Tanzania starting February 2015 working in Health/HIV/Malaria Education and prevention. I’m currently waiting for the official invitation which will confirm my nomination and send me off in five short months. I’ve decided that if I will be spending two years in another country as a representative of America....I should probably get to know my own country a little bit better, as I’ve never really travelled west of the Mississippi. I’ve been talking about a cross country road trip since high school and I’m stoked to finally make it happen and take advantage of this unique and exciting time in my life.
As for Cody...he’s travelled just as far as I have west and is a true adventurer and kid at heart. He just finished up his MBA at Eastern Tennessee State University and, with the same mindset as myself, didn’t want to get sucked in by the “get a career right away, work 9 to 5, never do what you really want” pressure of society. In the spring, he made the decision to join me on this road trip (which I was planning on taking regardless). Instead of taking on a new job when he gets back, he is researching launching a business around an App. He’s very passionate about it.
Both of us have our own personal reasons for taking this trip. This trip is meaningful to us as individuals, but it's also meaningful to us as a couple. Within the past year and a half, we've been long distance dating from Virginia to Florida, Tennessee to NJ, and a two-hour drive within TN. This trip will be the most consecutive time we've spent with each other....ever....oyy! While we both know it can be a challenge to completely forfeit our privacy....and sleep....and sanity...and sanitary practices, we're excited to have this trip be a testament to our relationship and make it even stronger. Also, if we end up being apart for 27 months during Peace Corps, it will be really nice to have this special joint experience to look back on. All we know is that we’re living life, constantly learning about things...ourselves, and each other, smiling as much as possible, and spending our time doing something that not too many people get the chance to do. I hope you friends check in with us as we keep moving! ....we're gonna need some distractions from each other! 😊
Cheers!
