The Romans had several games in which they would play. Their favorite one was the "Gladiators". Gladiators were mainly slaves or fugitives from other places that Rome had managed to gain control over. Not only were their slaves but their was also those men who would give up their freedom to be a gladiator, of course they had to live as a slave and be treated as one. Compared to actual slaves gladiators were treated harsh but they had a few more areas were they had medical treatment, food given to them and housed. Even woman in rare occasions were gladiators as well. The Gladiators had been entertainment for the Roman empire as well as the republic.They fought other people as well as wild animals.Some emperors performed as gladiators as well. But the Romans claim that the sport of gladiatorism had come from Etruscans. 310BCE. Was when the first game had begun. The games had symbolized the re- enactment of the campaigns military success over the Samnites.
