RENISANCE FAIRE
This is just one of the many interesting items we saw at a renisance faire in New York I'm finally trying to finish the blog of our 2009 trip. We've been home for three weeks and very busy. We went up to Jacksonville for a couple days and I was going to finish there but we were so busy I didn't even turn on the computer. I'm going to try to keep this short but it covers about a full month of travels.
8-14/16-2009 From Westover we came down to a city park near my sister's house. Croton Point is on the Hudson River and has a nice campground for a city park. We were less than 10 miles from Sandy's so it was much easier to get there than when we stayed at West Point a couple years ago. On Saturday we took Max to another vet to get enough meds to get him home then went to a Renaissance Faire with Sandy, Tom & Tammy. Tommy was out on a shoot for his photography business. They have a park where they hold the faire each summer and they do a very good job. Sunday we went to church with Sandy and spent some time
TOM & SANDY
We came back through New York north of the city to visit with my sister Sandy, her husband Tom their son Tommy and his girlfriend Tammy. with she and Tom. After dinner we went back to the coach to prepare to depart in the morning.
8-17/18-2009 We moved on to a small town Kutztown, PA where we spent a day looking around and resting before we went to Lancaster which we both enjoy.
8-19/21-2009 In Lancaster we stayed at the same RV park we used last year. It's in a good location and has some involvement with a hotel in Bird-in-hand. This year we were invited to an ice cream social at the hotel and to a discussion with an Amish lady and Menonite man. It was very interesting. We also saw a couple plays, one was Abraham and Sarah, which was very well done, the other a good comedy.
8-22/23-2009 We spent the weekend at Endless Caverns Campground near New Market, VA where we visited the New Market Battlefield from the Civil War. It seems wherever we stop there's always something to see.
8-24-2009 We were headed for North Carolina to visit with friends so we only spent one night at Ft
DURHAM
On our way from Lancaster PA to North Carolina we spent the weekend in New Market VA. While there we visited a civil war battlefield. Chiswell RV Park in VA.
8-25/9-3-2009 We got to the Five Star Campground in Canton NC ( which is actually some friends house) and found it to be such a relaxing pleasant place we stayed longer than any other stop this year. While there we visited the Puldys who we know from the guard in Jacksonville as well as a number of our friends from SEANATS, an RV club we belong to. Millie and Burl own the house, Keith & Shirley were staying there when we arrived and Ray & Carol as well as Jean & John were at a campground near by. One evening Durham and several of the others went to an auction and the next day we went to a flea market. One of the best things was relaxing and visiting with friends, but they left before we did so we just continued to enjoy their hospitality there by ourselves. We went to Biltmore which was an amazing place. It was a drizzly day but we enjoyed it. It was amazing how quickly they demolished a garden exhibit that had ended the day before we visited. I'm not certain I've
BILTMORE
While staying at the Five Star Campground we went in to Ashville to the Biltmore Estate. It was very nice but a lot of steps to climb and descend. climbed and descended so many steps in one day in my life, but it was fastinating to see how rich people lived long ago. Before we left we got our meds refilled, did laundry, visited Cherokee and did a little house cleaning. It was a great place to stay and we really appreciated the hospitality.
9-4/7-2009 Well it's time to move on if we're ever going to get home. We're going down to Hendersonville. Durham says it is closer to a couple places he'd like to show me. When we got here we found it is the weekend for the apple festival so since it's too late to go other places we went into town to check it out. This seems to be our year for getting to town just in time for festivals and such. We're going to Cashiers, Highlands and to check out some waterfalls Saturday, it's a pretty day but very hot. Sunday after church we decided to go check out Chimney Rock Park but when we got there we found we couldn't take Max into the park and it was too hot to leave him in the car so we
CHEROKEE
Another day trip from Five Star Camp was to Cherokee where we saw several decorated bears including this patriotic one. decided not to stay. Monday we did a little shopping and were going in to town to check another store but the road was closed for the parade so we parked and I sat in the car with the windows open. I wasn't sure I could stand for the whole parade and was glad I didn't try because it lasted almost an hour and a half. First were the old cars, then the commercial entries and bands and civic organizations, military, civil war reinactors and last was the float with the apple queen. I can't remember when we saw such a long parade.
9-8-2009 We're actually headed home. We're spending the night in South Carolina, then a short visit to Savannah and home.
9-9/10-2009 We're staying just west of Savannah in Rincon, GA for a couple nights. We decided to take a tour of Savannah since we've neither done that before. Part way through the tour we got off at The Pirate House for lunch. Later there were two stops not far apart along the harbor so we got off at the first and walked to the next and got on the next trolly and rode back to
FIVE STAR CAMPGROUND
Friends from Florida bought a home in Canton NC near Ashville. They put in several full connect camping spaces to make a very nice campground for friends to come visit. We really enjoyed our stay. the start. We need to get back early to get ready to go home. It will be a longer than average day tomorrow.
9-11-2009 Well it's been 190 days; 7,552.6 RV miles and 6,738.2 car miles; 1,527 pictures but --- We're home and there's actually water in the lake. Time to start moving back in and get back in the busyness of daily life.
