Chicago

We finally arrived in Chicago despite the horrendous traffic(Im glad we arent driving in New York!)We said goodbye to the monte at the airport and hopped on the subway to our next hostel, in the Lincoln Park area of the city. We were amazed at how clean Chicago was compared to New York. The Navy pier was our first tourist spot, the air show was on last weekend so we watched them practising for it over lake Michigan. The pier was full of restaurants , boat moorings and kids things. A lot better than the piers back home!Sadly while we were there I found out my auntie mavis died, it was such a shock that I spent ages in a daze, its times like this that you want to be back home more than ever. May she rest in peace.
Later we had lunch along the chicago river which was beautiful, then headed to the magnificent mile- the shopping district. The old water tower is around there too, the only downtown survivor of the huge fire they had. We spent the evening around the bars in Lincoln park it was really nice , everyone sat outside on the

terraces. We keep getting asked for id everywhere we go as they want you to look over 35 even though you only have to be 21 to drink, its crazy!
The next day we went to the airshow which was really good some of the tricks were amazing, but nail biting at times! That night we went to a blues club called BLUES, the oldest one in Chicago, the band were amazing and it was packed out,Im really glad we went as I was a bit reluctant at first.
Sunday we walked down to wrigley field in the pouring rain to get tickets for the chicago cubs baseball vs st louis cardinals that night. We spent a while moving to another hostel downtown before heading back to wrigley field for the match. We could only get standing tickets but as we were stood at the back a guy came over and gave us some spare seated tickets, which was brilliant !what a stroke of luck. The baseball was pretty good, but after a about 20 minute play it started to rain, so they had a rain delay which meant most people headed for the bar. After an hour or so the match was called off as it still wasnt dry enough to play(I think they would have carried on it it were in the UK) so sadly our luck wasnt in this time!

New York

We arrived after a short delay all in one piece at the hostel in the upper west side. Our first night we went to a club in the meatpacking district called cielo, we had a really good time the music was a real mix of everything and the music is so clear because of the sound system they have in there. It puts Manchester to shame!
As we have both been to New York before we havent been going to the touristy spots too much as we have seen most of it. We have spent the days shopping in soho, greenwich village, times square and china town. Last night we went to Chelsea as we heard there was a good tapas bar there, it was fantastic. The food in there was really good and its something we havent eaten in soooo long. We have a few more days left so we have a few touristy things planned- to avoid buying anymore
