The Yellow StoneThe Yellow StoneThe Yellow Stone

I am sorry my camera didn't capture the beauty.
"Yelowstone", the Indians gave the name. As they would give directions they would say “pass the river by the yellow stone.” And a yellow stone it is. The mountain along the river is the most amazing yellow/orange color. I’m sorry my camera didn’t do it justice.

The best part of our 5day trip was the drive from the town of Red Lodge into the northeast corner of Yellowstone. It’s a 30 mile drive we were told would take 2 1/2 hours. Ha! It took us a good 5hrs. In the car we had giggles and shrieks of fright (many from me) as we traversed the mountain roads to 10,000+ feet. We heard it had snowed in the mountains the previous week so we were on the lookout for remaining patches of the “chilly white”. We stopped at the first sighting. Parking the car on the roadside we ran up the gradual slope. At this point we were well above the timber line. Soon we were no longer running but walking slowly and gasping from the thin mountain air. And of course, the snow was much farther away then it originally appeared. Forcing our bodies to continue forward, we began to

What fun to have a snowball fight in the middle of August!!
doubt our sighting. Fearing, just over the ridge, we would meet white dirt rather then snow. Kwabena (17yrs) was the first to arrive. His shrieks of delight wiped away our fears and made the climb well worth the effort.

Wednesday-Sunday the county fair is here in town. No doubt it will be another great adventure for the boys.

We still have not nailed down our ND departure date. We have traveled so many miles in the past week the thought of traveling again isn’t too appealing. Can we pack up and pull out early next week???? Time will tell.

Let us know if you have any ideas of where we can park our family of four for awhile.

See you MI folks real soon!!!

A grizzly bear had visited the camp the day we arrived and pitched our tent. The following day the hiking path was closed. Aparently somewhere outside of camp, a grizzly bear had claimed a bison carcus as his own. Yikes!

Our visit to a friend in Minnisota the previous week brought more delight. The boys were introduced to water sports! Thanks for being brave Dara! On this cold and windy day we prayed and asked for the sun to shine for just 45 minutes. Oh the Lord is good to those who love Him! :)
