So today has been a long day on the bus.....8.5 hours in total so as you can imagine there isn't much to report & hard to bring in any humour! Everyone on the coach is finding the early rises a bit of a nightmare & not much of a holiday. Today bags had to be ready for 6.30am with the bus leaving for 7.30am - now does that sound like a holiday to you?? Being Day 6, it's now starting to become a bit of routine & have at last got over the tiredness of travelling. Although, I'm tired either through the heat or not actually doing very much.
A typical day on a coach trip usually involves leaving very early, loo stop after 2 hours, then lunch 2 hours later, loo stop after another 2 hours and then arrival at your final destination. You may get the odd video on the coach or Bob our Tour Guide might entertain us. This can be either through telling us stories about this mother-in-law, getting us to make bows out of toilet paper or having team games drawing a mousse! Mmmmm, I bet you are all wishing you were here with me
now don't you!
We were lucky today to get away from some of this to stop twice for a couple of photo shots as the landscape is quite beautiful & every changing. I've attached a couple of photos of what I've seen today.
Our journey to Cody took us up to 9000ft so the joys of altitude sickness also started to kick in. As if I want more of the sickness feeling. Memories of Peru started coming back....nausea, dizzyness etc... but this time no donkey to be thrown on the back off!
I've attached a few pictures of where we passed through - nothing exciting I'm afraid. Where we are travelling is real cowboy land! Everyone wears the cowboy boots, hats & talks in that funny amercian drawl accent. Some of the towns are tiny...one only had a population of 800 people so you can imagine it's pretty interbred & everyone knows everyone's business. There weren't even any shops which would kill me!
To fill in some space I'll revert to my favourite subject of food. Most people on the tour are already are sick of the American food with little choice apart from fast food,
burgers, chicken, chips & everything being deep fried. I'm trying hard not to be a pig especially when your sat on your ass for 8 hours a day! Although to date I'm proud to say I haven't had any of the following - McDonalds, Burgers, Ice Cream, Any dessert, Any alcohol, Pizza, Starbucks
I went for dinner tonight with an Austrialian lady who is travelling for 3 months. Already after 6 days we've started to have the discussions of "when I get back what will be the first thing you will eat?". Naturally mine was the good old roast beef Sunday lunch with all the trimmings!
The main highlight of the day was the fact I have done another first in my life......I went white water rafting down the Shoshone River in Cody. Now I will admit it, I was sh*****g myself & had visions of me going overboard & losing my glasses (this is one of my fears in life!) Now as for as rafting is concerned I think this was pretty tame. I got a little wet but I've been more frightend & been more wet doing a water ride at Alton Towers! (is it the
log flume?)
Tonight we are staying in Cody which has links of some kind to Buffalo Bill. Now I wasn't listening on the bus to the tour leader otherwise I could have given you a history lesson. The accomodation tonight is a bit different as it's a bit like a shed with a bed & toilet in. Again I've attached some photo's of it.
They are individual wooden cabins which I'll be honest I'm not really liking from a safety point of view. I keep thinking that an axe murderer is going get me during the night - similiar to Jack Nicholson in the Shining! I've got everything locked down & my suitcase in front the door so hopefully I can sleep. If not I've got a toy moose to cuddle in to!
Tomorrow is Yellow Stone Park so should be a good day as it's supposed to be a beautiful place.
Till tomorrow
