We left Custer State Park, taking the Needles Scenic Highway Drive again, this time north. We drove up to Lead where we saw an open pit mine in the middle of the town. We drove through Deadwood which has a restored western town main street. Wild Bill Hickok was killed here in a saloon while playing poker. He is buried in Mt Moriah Cemetery. We then went to Sturgis to see where the motorcycles gather for bike week (we were there about a week after it ended) They were having a tractor parade on the main street - lucky us. We had lunch at Knuckles, a really cool biker’s bar.

Then we headed for Wyoming. It has some rolling hills and we saw a couple of oil drilling machines and an open pit coal mine. It started raining again so we decided to keep driving. We ate in Dayton before we had to go through the Bighorn Mountains. The temperature kept dropping as we climbed to over 9,000 feet. We were afraid the rain might turn to snow. It was 40 degrees. On the other side of Granite Pass, it stopped raining and we got some nice pictures.

We kept driving until we got to Cody, WY, a real quaint western town. We found a campsite on the Shoshone River, at Buffalo Bill State Park. The scenery there was - well you will see the picture that we take tomorrow when the sun comes up.
