After 15 years in the Grand Canyon State - Arizona, it was time to move. Now one would have a hard time understanding why I was bitter about leaving the dry arid desert of Arizona for a semi-tropical state of Washington. That is a long story, and I will leave it for another time. The big and small of it, is that my husband got tired of the heat, and trekking in the desert all day, and decided to put in for a job relocation. Seattle is what he got. Like me, prior to moving here, I did not know that Seattle like Phoenix has a large metropolitan area, that covers up to 3 counties. Renton, like many other smaller cities within an hours drive of downtown Seattle are part of metropolitan Seattle. When my husband ... read more

Just under two weeks until I depart. I’ll start with the good news; I was awarded the WCCCSA (Washington Community College Consortium for Study Abroad) scholarship! As far as activities go while we are there, they are trying to match us with another group to cut costs and make sure we get as many experiences as possible. We don’t get our activity schedule until we arrive in Florence which I’m a little bummed about. More because I want an idea of the schedule and time off for independent travel more than knowing what the activities are, although I do want to know that as well. What has ... read more

I leave in 5 weeks, and am feeling both exhilarated and terrified. I wanted to begin my blog early so I know it is set up and ready to rock as soon as I’m in Florence. So I’m thinking I’ll keep everyone posted on all the ins and outs of preparing to spend four months in Europe! After receiving my conformation that the Florence Program will go through I quickly got to work on preparations I had been putting off in case it had been canceled. I have since booked my airfare and arranged all my paperwork for an Italian Visa. Normally a visa would not be required; however, I’m hoping to spend part of my summer exploring and experiencing France. The time limit without a Visa is 90 days and my planned trip is 119 ... read more
