Day 26. We left The Rivermen in West Virginia early in the morning and drove backroads thru Virginia toward Appomattox. The country side was beautiful and I know why my parents had a hard time deciding if they were to retire from the Air Force in Nebraska or Virginia. They may have missed the ball on that one.

Although we didn't hike on the AT we did stop on the way for photos at the sign.

When we drove into Appomattox we went straight to the Historical Site. Obviously it was great to see the historical buildings where Lee Surrendered the Northern VA forces to Grant, but the true enjoyment was listening to both Union and Confederate soldiers tell stores in character.

..... during the night something large went thru this campsite. I didn't look out to see. Ranger said there had been no sitings of black bear in the park but there had been several in the forest.
