We arrived home Wednesday afternoon. God blessed us with a safe trip of over 8100 miles. It seemed when we traveled toward home time dragged. It took 5 days to travel cross country by the “middle route”. We traversed the entire west-east length of Nevada, Wyoming and Nebraska. Then we dropped down to Kansas City, Missouri where we picked up I64. We drove through a small part of Illinois and Indiana, continued eastward through Kentucky, West Virginia and finally into Virginia.
It was a great trip. This time we adjusted quickly to the RV routine and even the dogs seemed more relaxed. We are so grateful for the Cozy Turtle’s small size; it can handle narrow curvy roads and small parking places with no trouble. CT gives us a lot of flexibility.
We saw beautiful and interesting scenery. California has such diversity. We were in 100 degree heat in Death Valley one week and in snow on Tioga Road in Yosemite less than 2 weeks later. Our favorite place on the coast was Big Sur. Yosemite was also a favorite.
California is expensive. Gas ran $4.19-$4.55 per gallon. Grocery store prices were higher than Virginia, but less than Alaska. After traveling the country, I’ve come to the conclusion that the cost of living in the Richmond area is very reasonable.
We’re getting back into our at home schedule. CT is parked and waiting for a few minor repairs. We’ve put away the GPS for awhile. I guess it’s time to start thinking about our next RV trek. Maybe we’ll stay on the east coast next year. Nova Scotia might be nice.
