sweet alyssum & petunias
very fragrant white alyssum We left Tucson, AZ on Sunday morning……the day before we left, we were driving through the desert and we stopped so that I could get pictures of the desert flowers I saw blooming. Also blooming were orange and yellow California Poppies, in many yards….so pretty (but I couldn’t get a pic of them).
We arrived in Las Cruces, New Mexico about 1:30 pm on Sunday afternoon. The RV park was very small (under 100 sites). Impressive was the building that served as Community Room/Laundry/Showers. It was immaculate! Of all the parks we have been in this was by far the cleanest! Early Monday morning we headed out for Roswell, New Mexico (a 3 hr. drive one way!).! On our way we drove by many, (many) antique shops & flea markets (many appeared to be closed, don’t know if it is the economy or the fact that it was a Monday). Then we drove by a ‘test missile site’ (they close the road when they are testing), the “White Sands Monument”,surprisingly, to me, we drove through Apache Territory (complete with casino, of course) then the ‘Billy the Kid’ visitors center, many more antique stores & flea markets and finally
arrived (3 hrs later in Roswell, New Mexico). OK….don’t tell Jim, (‘cause I made him go) but Roswell is really over-rated! Unless you are really, really interested in UFO’s there isn’t much there (except the UFO museum). We stopped by the visitors center….but they were ‘pushing’ the “other” stuff in town, like their fine (regular) museum and zoo (in which they have a white peacock). But my mission was ‘aliens’….so we went straight (well almost straight, there was a consignment shop next door, which Jim insisted stopping at and making purchases for upcoming Texas) to the UFO museum. The museum was interesting, but really not very big…..so it didn’t take too long to walk through. Lots of pics attached.
Time to head back, since it’s a 3 hr. drive……plus, now it’s lunch time and (after all) we drove by that beautiful Indian casino!
The ‘Mountain of the Gods’ (in Apache territory)….yes, they had a buffet….and I have to say, it is probably the most flavorful buffet we have ever been to (one casino in Mississippi comes close). So glad we stopped. Jim played Blackjack (pretty much broke even), while I took pictures of the casino (inside & out)….it
was beautiful! The prettiest I’ve ever seen (but pretty small). There was a long line for people checking into the hotel though….so they’re doing a great business. We couldn’t stay long…we had a long drive back.
Early Tuesday morning….(very early) we started out for Roundtop/Warrenton Texas. We had a flea-market to get to which we are ‘setting up’. We spent Tuesday night in a Wal-Mart parking lot in Texas and arrived at our destination on Wednesday about 4:30 pm. I have posted pictures of all that I have seen along the way (including the Texas Bluebonnets…..I saw the Texas Bluebonnets). (They are not as impressive as I imagined…sigh…). Also in bloom here is the Yucca….I could not get a picture, as the pictures come out pretty blurry as we are driving at 60 mph). We picked out our tent (note to Cory & Sandy….can you imagine Marie letting us pick out our own spot?? And told us the price was actually less than they quoted?) We have a 10 x 20 ft area, plus a site for our Motorhome with 30 amp power and water, close enough that we can actually see our tent from our RV!
(Even closer than we are in Brimfield). It was too late to set up anything but our tables (which we bought from a vendor going out of business when we were in Quartzsite, AZ (got a good deal)). Thursday, we set up all our goods, ready for ‘opening day’ on Friday…(Jim already sold a few things. They are not as strict here and allow people to walk around and buy before the official opening day.) I have posted a few pics of our ‘sales’ tent site and of some of the other vendors sites. We expect we will start our ‘trek’ home on Easter Sunday. We do not have ‘internet’ here, so this will probably be my last ‘blog’ until we get home.
Hope you enjoy the pics!
