Mustang Island

On January 3, 2009, we travelled north from Mission, about 200 miles, to Pioneer Beach Resort, Port Aransas, on Mustang Island near Corpus Christi. Mustang Island is just north of Padre Island and is about 18 miles long. The southern end of the island connects to north Padre Island and Corpus Christi by bridge and the northen end connects to Aransas Pass by a short, free ferry. We had intended to stay here for two weeks then move up the coast a few miles to Rockport to take advantage of our Western Horizon membership. But we were running errands in Rockport on Monday and drove by the resort just to take a look... not a nice place! So we extended and will now be here at Pioneer until February 1st. This will be a great spot to spend a month... we have a nice boardwalk over the seawall to the beach; the local trolley stops here hourly and for 25 cents you can ride into town; we're just a short drive from Corpus Christi (lots of great shopping!); several good birding places; lots of great restaurants. Our first week here has been mainly getting oriented... settling in, getting our mail, still trying to get service on our defunct satellite tv, walking the beach. As we explore the area more thoroughly, I'll post more photos.

The ferry to Aransas Pass
There are four ferries running back and forth 24 hours a day. This will be fun with the motorhome!
