Howdy welcome to Bandera. Drew and I went for a drive to the Hill Country today. We ended up in a small place called Bandera population 1296. Lonely Planet describe it as having the look and feel of an old Western movie set. They aren't far off with exception of the huge freshly painted road running down the middle of town. But the rest of it was awesome.
It had a big old water tower in the middle of town, a few bars, a place to kick up your heals and do some dancin'.
Not line dancing. I am told they don't do line dancing in Texas and if anyone tells you otherwise they aren't from Texas.
Everyone in Texas is very polite but out here they take it to the extreme. Every polite word known to man is used in the 2 minutes it takes you to buy a drink. "Howdy how are you today" "Thats good to hear" "thankyou" "thankyou very much" "Good bye now ya'll have a good day" Its hard work just keeping up and making sure you are equally polite back.
I really enjoyed Bandera, it reminded me a little of a small farming town in New

The town hall. Zealand. With obvious exceptions.
Everyone in Texas drives a truck (ute) a big truck. but out here in the country they drive even bigger trucks! Drew says your status is determined by the size of your cattle bars on the front of your truck! These things make your Toyota Hilux look like a matchbox toy.
We killed a good few hours walking from one end of the town to the other.
