Magnolia Mound PlantationMagnolia Mound PlantationMagnolia Mound Plantation

One of the first plantations to be built at Baton Rouge. It gives you a good feel for the conditions in 1790.
We had a nice night's rest in Baton Rouge. After a relaxing breakfast, we visited the Magnolia Mound Plantation near LSU university. Then we travelled to Henderson for a swamp tour. We learned a lot about Ashafalaya Swamp and the Cajuns. They occupied the swamp on floating cabins since the fall of Quebec in 1763? but the flood of 1927 was too much for them as the water rose higher than the trees. The reason they were in the swamp was that the hunting fishing and trapping was so good. They even had a railway station in the swamp. But now they have moved to higher ground and do tours for people like us.

For the rest of the day, we drove to Houston.

Lots of swamp information and stories about Thibodeau and Boudreau. The gators were hibernating.
