So last weekend I went caving. I had been looking forward to this trip for ages as it was overnight caving and I knew it was going to be lots of fun. We were really lucky that the weather was quite warm so the actual cave wasnt too cold, well not during the day anyway.
So we drove to Tenessee (which is only an hour n half away) to Worleys cave. We had to cave for about 20 mins carrying all our sleeping and cooking equipment until we were at the spot where we were going to sleep for the night. Once we had settled in there we went off in groups just exploring and finding different holes and paths to follow. Was so much fun just being able to explore....felt like I was in The Goonies....hehehe. Some bits were obviously quite scary, there was this one pathway that had these two slanted walls but there wasnt any floor to walk on through it so you had to put your bum on one wall and your feet on the other and slide yourself across...and underneath you was noting but a load of rocks quite far down...so you definitely didnt want
to fall! Some bits of the cave were quite small and you had to lie down and slide on you bum or crawl on your knees. This was rather bad for me as the day before I had stupidly decided to fall down some stairs...totally a grace moment...and so my knees and legs were sore and bruised. And the cave isnt all rocky...its all muddy and wet, so by now we were pretty filthy. We went around exploring kinda got a bit lost had been walking for like half a mile and we decided we should find our camp, before we went back i want to go down this little path, so we did that and guess where we ended up....our camp! Pretty lucky indeed.
Once we were back at camp we had started cooking dinner, the program I had gone on the trip with had prepared some pizza dough mix that you just add water too so we could make our own pizzas....and they were soooo good! haha probably the best food ive had hear so far! The night was pretty fun, of course we did the whol scary story thing and once everyone had settled down to
cave opening...
byebye daylight.... sleep and all the headlights were turned off, you wouldnt believe how dark it was, i seriously did not know if my eyes were open or closed, i would wave my hand right in front of me and you could not tell at all...it was kinda scary and kinda hurt my eyes a bit....was very weird! It was such a cold night tho, i had two layers of clothing on top and bottom and must have woke up every hour freezing and shaking, and then at 8.30 they made us all get up for breakfast...was weird getting up and of course it was still dark, didnt feel right!
That day we spent the whole day caving again. It was lots of fun too, and we went on a completely different path to what we had done the previous day. Did some more difficult things where we had to use rope and stuff to help us cave. And there was this one point where to continue you had to accross this saddle like thing, and the middle was too small to walk on so you had to straddle it and slide across but either side were deep massive holes...i was
petrified i was going to fall in! but i didnt and i made it! Once we had got to the end of the cave we couldnt go back to the way we had come as we had climbed up a bit and it was too dangerous to go back down so the only other way out was to walk through the river...luckily this river only came up to my knees, so it wasnt too bad, except it was freezing and dark so you had to be careful when walking that you didnt hit a sudden deep bit...as there were random deep holes in the river!
Once back at camp we grabbed and stuff and left straight away, wet and very muddy and cold. BY now i was so tired, and my wrists hurt bad and my knees hurt and everything, i think all of us were so excited to see some daylight! The difference between staying in a cave compared to camping is that because of the lack of flow of air and sunlight anything left in the cave turns to mould....including spit, rubbish, food....wee....haha....so we had to have a honeybucket! haha....whcih was basically our toilet for two days,
a bucket with a bin bag in and when we left the cave some poor person had to carry this out and empty it down a toilet....luckily it was not me! But it was such a fun weekend, probably one of my best experiences out here.
Not long now till im home, going so quick.....hope all is ok for everyone, missing you lots
