Made it to Fallingwater without incident!

Fallingwater is Frank Lloyd Wright's spectacular masterpiece in Mill Run, Pennsylvania. Kaufmann Jr. was a student architect at the time and convinced his parents (owners of Kaufmann department stores) to have FLW design their summer home. They agreed to a budget of $30,000 in 1936 -- quite high considering it was the Depression. By the time the house was finished in the late 40s, the price had ballooned to over $100,000 (I think this happened to all of FLW's commissions!).

As with all of FLW's design, of course, the house leaked. But, oh, what a beautiful house!

FLW placed the house so that parts of it would sit atop the spring and by the waterfall. Nature and design side by side. The pool was constructed to be a continuous flow of water from the spring and back again. And the nearby rocks and boulders made up the walls in some places.

One word: harmony.
