Church:
This morning we went to church at St Patrick's Church in D.C. St Patrick's church is the oldest parish in the Federal city and it was breathtaking! Alex tested out the acoustics for the first 10 minutes. He loved hearing his voice echo. Alex and I then spent the rest of the mass in the forum. On our adventures, we love to attend mass at the local churches. Not only does this allow us to have our one on one time with God but we also get to experience the local church culture and beautiful buildings in the process.
Union Station:
On our way to the greyhound station, we stopped at Union Station to take a look around and to have lunch. It is huge with a grand ceiling and giant soldiers along the roof line. Plus it was full of cute little boutiques and shops, but it was way overpriced. The highlight was the food. We ordered Indian food at a little Indian stand in the food court below the train station. The curry and the somosas were jammed packed full of flavor. Just wished we could get fast food like this at home.
Greyhound:
In one
word the Greyhound station was DISGUSTING. Grace is at the age now where she wants to do everything herself which is wonderful except when the bathrooms look like that.
But the highlight for me was Alex. I noticed a young couple cuddling behind us, and she was obviously pregnant. The husband left to make a call and Alex, who was walking around with Jason, walked straight up to her and gave her a bear hug. Jason had to pull him off as he was cuddling just like he does with us. Her husband returned and she burst into tears. Turns out she was sending her husband off for his next tour of duty in the army and he wouldn't be back until after the baby was born. It was great to see the love and compassion in Alex's heart at 16 months old. Plus after this, touring the sites of D.C., and teaching our kids about freedom, I can tell you that freedom isn't free and that I'm more proud then ever to be an American

The 3 hour bus ride on Interstate 95 was very relaxing, especially since Alex and Brecklyn slept 2 hours and we
got to spend some one-on-one time reading to Grace. The bus itself was well worn, and it would have been nice to get one of the new buses with wifi and power outlets. Instead we got to hear karaoke (with self commentary) on repeat from the passenger behind me. Luckily he got off in Baltimore, so the remaining 2 hours were quiet. Actually, we were probably more sensitive about the kids making noise than on our flight here because the driver gave very clear instructions about the expected noise level.
Our hotel for the next two nights is located on the Delaware River with the room overlooking the Franklin bridge. The view out of our window is beautiful. Walking access to the hotel is not so great, though. The hotel is located on a river level street, while the city level streets are all built up a couple of stories. The only access point that we've found so far is a staircase a block from the hotel. So after lugging our suitcase, stroller, and 3 kids down 4 flights of stairs to get to it, we were ready for dinner. We rode the subway (most expensive subway ride yet)
to Bobby's Burger Palace. It was the perfect Mother's Day meal. I had a Bobby Bleu Cheese burger, spiked vanilla carmel milk shake (light on the spike), and sweet potato fries. I was curious if he would have his famous sauces and he did. I loved the jalapeno sauce. Now off to bed and excited to explore Philly and have a real Philly cheese steak sandwich tomorrow.
