View of the Clouds
Taken from Fred and Betty's hilltop home in Brookings, we saw a herd of elk down in the meadow Eugene is the home of the University of Oregon (a granola kind of place) with a very nice Saturday morning farmers market—lots of fresh and organic offerings. Diane picked berries near the Marathon Coach facility and bagged as much as she could fit in the freezer. Of course, she also slipped and fell into one of the berry bushes and came home scratched and bleeding.
After we had our coach serviced, we headed down the Pacific Coast Highway to visit friends Fred and Betty in Brookings, near the California border. They have a lovely home high on a hilltop with a magnificent view, and Betty cooked us a fabulous dinner one night.
One day the four of us took a jet boat ride up the Rogue River from Gold Beach—pictures tell the story.
Leaving Oregon, we were stopped at the California Border for an agriculture inspection. The agent came on board and checked the fruit bowl and the refrigerator drawers and asked us where we bought our produce. (I had just shopped in Brookings.) But, again, no one was concerned about all the firewood in the back of the Honda--oh, well.
