So me and Elly were getting a bit bored of stuyding and partying and decided to go on a little road trip.....
Friday afternoon we just decided to get on the one bus that goes out of Boone to the nearest city...Greensboro! We hadnt planned a thing..not even where to stay, we just wanted to go, so we did. Anyway we arrived in Greensboro about 10 in the main bus station. Now all we had to do was figure out somewhere to stay. haha...well even getting on the bus was a mission, but some people came and helped us and told us to get on this bus and it will take us to some motels etc..so off we went...not even a clue where we were going. Anyway we ended up staying in the cheap motel Super 8. It was so funny going in there, the girl behind the desk was quite young and was inviting us out that night and telling us where we should go and stuff. So we went to get ready..had a few sneaky drinks in the motel and just ventured off to the nearest club we could find.
Bad idea....first of all we had to
beg the bouncers to let us in, being under 21 n all...and eventually they did only if they stamped our hands so we couldnt buy alcohol...so we went in, attempted to buy a drink my hiding our hands..haha...didnt work..they let us stay though, we just played dumb and was like oh sorry. So we stayed in this club which was by the way a hip hop club...me and elly being the only white people in there....talk about save the last dance or what hahaha. It was fun though, and we made some friends...we left about 2, and asked the bouncer where else we could go and he advised us to go to this restaurant...so we went for dinner at 2am haha...to be fair i only had a burger which is just like normal 2am food but elly order a proper dinner...salmon and rice. I couldnt believe this restaurant was actually open this time of the night...we made some more weird friends here....then headed back to our motel....such a random night.
Saturday morning was another adventure of trying to find the shopping mall...well we did eventually.. was a bit of a trek what with us carry all our stuff in
our bags. But we found it, and had a ncie afternoon shopping.....was so tiring though liek i said carrying all our stuff, so about 3pm we sat on these chairs in the middle of the mall...and in true layla style...slept.... I couldnt believe it when I woke up, we had actually jsut fallen asleep in this huge busy mall for like an hour!! But it was so nice to actually do some fun stuff...we now had our next adventure of getting back to the bus station to catch a greyhound bus to the Capital of NC...Raleigh.
It all went fine, except we hadnt planned where to stay or anything in Raleigh either but luckily my friend Chukuma lives there and was home for the weekend with our Australian friend Che...so they picked us up from the station and we stayed at his...which was lucky since it was late and dark and not having got somewhere to stay would not have been fun!! SO sat night we all headed out to another club in Raleigh...me and elly almost couldnt get in again but we managed to sweet talk the bouncers, promising we wouldnt drink...hehe....that was a fun night...and nice to
have somewhere warm and safe to go and sleep in.
Sunday we went for lunch with this old couple who went to keele in the 50's and now live in Raleigh...we had been introduced to them by keele alumni, so we emailed them and planned it all (one thing we had planned this whole weekend) so they came to pick us up....the guys met them with us to make sure they werent weirdos...haha...and they took us to lunch in this really cool american diner. It was lots of fun and we had lots of keele talks and stuff....this cute old couple were quite the rebels back then.....little story for keele people...you know by keele hall the gate says freshers gate on it...well this was this guy and his friend had done this carving into the stone by hand as a prank saying the freshers has to go into keele hall through a different gate.....they never got caught and its still there to this day....was so funny when they told us this...think they were suprised too that it was stillthere....but yeh was a cool afternoon.
We then ventured off to the state fair!!! This is a huge fair that
comes to town....and i mean huge!!!!! we were there from 2-8 and i dont think i saw all of it....was tons of fun though...and there were jsut as many food stalls as there were rides...typical america. But this was so much fun today...and our unplanned random weekend turned out to be a pretty good one. And we were able to catch a lift home from a friend leaving Raleigh that night...so all worked out ok...very lucky....
