Tree of Lights
Way crowded...but also it was really pretty. They played music and had lights of falling stars on the buildings. Nothing like spending New Year's in New York....besides it being overly crowded. I've never been during the holidays so it was quite a treat!
My friend, Adrian, & I arrived in NYC the day after Christmas. By the way, I spent over 6 hours in Atlanta on a layover due to so many travelers & bad weather. Nevertheless I made it. I took an expenisve cab to my best friend's apartment in Brooklyn. She moved up here a several months ago & is teaching first grade & getting her masters. She lives in a nice area in Brooklyn called Bay Ridge. Stacy didn't get in town til the 28th so Adrian & I hung out & saw some sights and did tons of walking.
I've been to NYC several times so I wasn't all about going to the major tourist sights this time, but I did want to see some of them because it's so pretty with the christmas lights & all. As you can imagine, there were SO many people & lines to see anything. We went to see my good friend, Rachel, who moved here a couple months ago at her work in Times Square. We tried
New Year´s Eve!
Was fun, but we didn´t rough it with the millions of people in Times Square. going to Serendipity, but there was a 5 hour wait!! The next morning we woke up at 3:30am because my pastor, Mark & his wife Lezlie, were in town visiting & they got tickets to the Good Morning America Show. I was so excited! So, once we arrived we still had to wait in line even though we had tickets for over 1 hour in the cold. We were getting closer & closer to the door. Right when it was our turn to be let in....of course, we were the cut off!!! We didn't get to go in!!! We couldn't believe it! They told us we could wait outside & be in the window crowd...no thank you! We headed across the street to grab breakfast & headed back home for some sleep. We met my friend, Christina, who came in town & went to the Tree of Lights at the Rockefeller Center & browsed around Time Square...beautiful! I was starting to feel like I was coming down with something...which I did, ended up getting a bad cold. Oh well. While walking all around I tried to picture myself living there....if I think I would like it....and I think I can.
I love how everyone does their own thing, it´s like you can be anything you want to be there....while living in a box! But that´s part of it! Part of the experience of living in NYC!! Maybe someday....
The next day we went the the MOMA Museum which was very cool! Lots of modern art. Unfortunately, we accidently went on the Free Friday day, so it was way crowded. More lines!! Then we headed to a tapas restaurant for some good food! Next morning we went for a run along the water in Brooklyn. We met Adrian's mom and her friend for dinner in Little Italy...amazing food!
New Year's Eve day!! Something I've always wanted to do is go the the
Brooklyn Tabernacle. You must read Fresh Wind Fresh Fire! It was an amazing service, with beautiful music, multi-racial congregation, and such a moving and convicting sermon. I love that....real sermons that don´t try to dress it up and make it seem like all is great. I love it when they tell it how it really is. If I lived here, I would definitely go to church there! It was so moving! We had lunch in Park Slope, a
Lights on Tree
Adrian, Stacy and me...posing before we almost got trampled on by the thousands of people trying to do the same thing...take pictures...aww tourists nice part of Brooklyn. For New Year's Eve, we went to one of Stacy's collegue's apartments for food & fun. She had lots of people over & had an amazing view on the roof of fireworks at midnight! I had wanted to go to Times Square for New Year's Eve, but my friends were party poopers & didn't want to...they said it would be too crowded, which it would have but isn't that part of the whole experience??!! Was fun nevertheless.
Spent the next day packing & getting ready for the next adventure....Central America!! It was a great trip & I´m so glad I got to see where Stacy is living now, etc. She really loves it there & loves her job. I still hope to move up there eventually. All in God´s timing. I got about 1 hour of sleep the last night. Adrian & I were picked up at 4am to go to the airport, which was a mad house!!! Pure chaos!!! Had a layover in Miami & then landed in San Salvador...stay tuned!!
Many blessings to you in 2007!! May this new year bring you joy, adventure, challenges, laughter, tears, new friends, determination, dreams, goals, sublime happiness, love, conviction, and thankfulness! Love you!
