??My beautiful, my beautiful balloon??. That was the theme last weekend in Wellsville, NY. The 45th annual Hot Air Balloon Rally was a huge success. Folks came from far and near to see the beautiful balloons float ever so gently up into the gorgeous blue sky. In the past, Cory and I have been fortunate enough to have been given a ride in one of these floating baskets. It was awesome! Up, Up and Away you go. I have to admit most of the balloon photos I’m sharing with you; aren’t mine. I have borrowed them from others who saw much more than we did. Two of the launches were at 6:00 AM!! Whaaat! You have to be kidding! Sleeping Beauty and her Prince were still in bed..ZZZZzzz. Enjoy! ….and thank you to whomever took some of these fabulous photos.
July has been a very busy and fun filled month for us…..minus yesterday when I had my mammogram. Fortunately, it was fine but my bumpers moaned. I used to go caffeine free for a week before….scratch that. I just put on my big girl brassiere and go for it. Owwwwww!
The week before the Balloon Rally, our town turned
out to celebrate the 100th anniversary of one of our favorite restaurants: The Texas Hot. It is a true legend. Those who have moved out of town, return just to get a Texas Hot! They are soooooo good! A real Texas hot dog is topped with mustard, their special Texas Hot sauce (not a chili sauce) and chopped onions. Oh, my mouthing is watering just writing this. We may have to make a Texas Hot run!! Wait just a minute…….
The Great Wellsville Balloon Rally and the Texas Hot restaurant joined forces in organizing and providing a wonderful parade for our community. The feeling of joy and celebration was at its highest. Everyone was feeling it. Cory and I had perfect seats along the parade route. Even though the participants were throwing candy into the crowd, we restrained ourselves and let the kids get it all. Drool! I love candy…..(and Walmart).
Let’s back up a bit and check out our other festivities. Oh, yippee! Hope we aren’t boring you….all of a sudden it feels like my annual Christmas letter that tells everything we did during the year. Yawn…and just think, I’m only covering one month! Oh, brother. Gadzooks!
Anyway, let’s make the best of it….we sure did!
Our son, Tim, called and said he and our grandson, Conner, were going to the Avon Flea Market (outside of Rochester, NY). It was Conner’s idea as Tim always laments how we scarred him for life taking him to all the antique shows that we did. Lory joined us as we decided to meet he and Conner. It was fun….we miss looking at all the treasures we could have bought….and would have bought for resale years ago. Now, we just stand over the item, talk about it and walk away. Achy Breaky Heart! Cory enjoyed sharing his knowledge of antiques and collectibles with our grandson. Conner is selling a few items on EBay…..start them young! We could have stayed in business and been called “Santiques & Corllectibles….and Grandson.” Lory has also taken up the cause…..she, too, sells on EBay. Must be in the blood! Tim laughed when I commented on the booth that had a cooler holding “Brownies & Butter” for sale. I thought….what a combo! Come to find out…..they were both made with marijuana…..good I wasn’t hungry! Geeze Louise…..who would have thought! Kim, Jim, Travis and his girlfriend met
Parade Day by the Texas Hot & Balloon Rally
Friends in the parade: Roger on his bike, Deb & Paul in their truck, Jan & Mary Lou for the Legion, Mike (owner) of the Texas Hot. all of us for lunch after we dragged ourselves out of the flea market. It is always our best time when we can be together with our wonderful family.
Cory and I went on a date night to see the ELVIS movie. We ate dinner at one of our favorites spots: the Beef Haus, and then, walked down to our local movie theater. A bit of history: The Grand Theater was originally built in 1886 as a Vaudeville Theater. In the 1920's, it was converted to projected silent films. Warner Brothers purchased the theater in 1939 and converted it to a single screen cinema with sound. Many years later, in 1982, the balcony was enclosed and it was converted again into a 2 screen theater. In 2004, Dolby sound and state of the art projection was installed. When you go in, it’s like going back in time if you compare it to the fancy loungers in the movie theaters in Florida. It was all good. We liked the Elvis movie; it was okay. The actor who played Elvis was amazing with his identical singing talent and on-spot gestures. Not a big crowd joined us. There were only four other
people in the audience. We didn’t have to reserve or fight for good seats.
As much as we try and fight it, we find ourselves searching for various restaurants where we can indulge ourselves. One trip took us a few miles down the pike to a small hamlet called Rexville. Here we found Pflumm’s Country Store. They have a wide variety of food and meals to buy or eat there. We ate there. No lines or buzzers here….we were the only customers at this time. So different than going to the White Castle in Kissimmee. Our meals were tasty. That’s our problem….we think everything is tasty!
We were thrilled to have our granddaughter, Rachael and her boyfriend, Brendon, stop by our RV/polebarn for a visit. They live in Alabama so we don’t get to see them often enough. Cory and Penny were with them so that added to the greatness of the day. We all walked down to a local bar/grill (Just One More) and made new memories over chicken wings! Chicken wings and Beef on Weck our staples in this area. More family time: Happy Days!
Cory got our golf cart running…..buying 6 new batteries for
it….sheesh…. but worth it. The avenues we travel are 100% different than those we take at Tropical Palms. We go off paved roads to follow an old railroad bed that goes for miles and miles (the WAG). Here, nature is at its finest…..it’s beautiful. The trail follows along the Genesee River. We don’t pass any other golf carts. Instead we pass the Amish in their horse drawn buggies. We have many Amish families living in our area now. I love Sundays when they all pass by heading to a designated home for their Sunday worship…..clip-clop, clip-clop. They come from miles around. It‘s like RV departure day at Tropical Palms with all the RV’s moving out. One RV after another. Here, it’s one buggy after another. It’s like we live two different lives!
Cory and I have tried to stop at various yard sales. I’m on a mission. I’ve been looking for Woody and Buzz Lightyear figures from Toy Story. Mission accomplished! Those of you at Tropical Palms will soon see the end result. Exciting, huh? We try to please. Cory made up our Dropbox for all his Amazon orders. We have a mailbox but this container is for packages.
He loves checking it. One delivery had his new Buffalo Bills hat in it. You can see who else was thrilled with this purchase. Go Bills!
We are in a conundrum. What to do? ….. we haven’t even hit upon the pièce de résistance adventure yet. There is so much more to cover. We know how you enjoy our minutia. Before you fall asleep, we will bring this blog to a close….but fear not……we’ll start another! Oh, lucky, lucky you. Your reading material is still forthcoming.
Today is a special day….no, not because I’ve published this blog. It’s our daughter, Kim’s birthday! What a wonderful day that was back in 1966. Every day since with her, has been even more wonderful. Happy, Happy Birthday Kim. We love you very much! ❤️❤️❤️ 13 photos so scroll way, way down.
……to be continued……
