We arrived at the airport and used the kiosk to check in and get our boarding passes. I thought the neatest thing was when we scanned our passport right at the kiosk. Everything is just getting so fancy these days.
We moved onto dropping off our luggage. Gold star to us because all bags were under 50 pounds. Since we (as in Olivia) were able to pack Timmy's clothes in a carry-on we didn't have to pay the extra baggage fee for Jeff's clubs. We are totally winning at this check-in thing!
Onto security. We arrived pretty early so I was not concerned about having to rush through security. When you walk up to the security line there is one security guard directing traffic. He makes sure you have your photo id and your boarding pass then he directs you to the correct line. He took a glance at our ticket and said, 'you are priority go through that line.' Uh, what?! There's no one in that line. He says, 'that's the line you go in.' To what do I owe this stroke of luck?! Anyone who knows me knows that these things don't happen. So, we high five in
the line and prance on down to the next security check point.
We are standing in line and I am explaining to the boys how they have to put their electronics in the security bins so they can go through the X-ray. This security guard walks up and says, 'you can come this way.'. Huh? He says, 'I'm opening a new lane.' Holy moly! It's as if lightning struck twice.
After all was said and done I think it took us 10 mins (might be overstating here) to go through security! For real.
I told Jeff this is going to be an AWESOME trip.
Alton, Kelsey and Megan arrive about 30 minutes after us. I wouldn't say their security experience was as blissful as ours.
Alton had preached to the girls about the limits on the liquids (no more than 3 ounces) so they wouldn't pack those items in their carry-on. Guess who got pulled aside because they had liquid in their bag...Alton. He packed his shaving cream in his carry on. We all had a good laugh at his expense.
Now all #starlingpartyof8 are together and things are getting so real.
Our flight was delayed about 30 minutes due to mechanical issues but we were finally able to board. We have about a 3 hour layover at JFK so we weren't stressing about the short delay.
Megan has been participating in the Duke Tip program in North Carolina so she was meeting Alton and Kelsey in Jacksonville. She had so many issues with delays and connecting flights I don't know how they got her to step foot in another airport today. This will be here third airplane is less than 24 hours. When our flight was delayed we laughed about yesterday and blamed today's delay on Megan. She was a good sport about is razzing her.
Since me, Jeff, Kirby and Timmy are now fancy smancy SkyPriority members we get the board the plane before the common folk. I was/am very grateful for this extra time since this is the boys first flight and I didn't want mom to have to rush.
Everyone got settled and we were ready for takeoff.
Watching Kirby and Timmy's reaction to taking off made us all laugh.
After take off the newness of flying was short lived. They looked out the window a little bit then turned their attention back to their electronics. Timmy said, 'this is like riding in a car.' Yep, pretty much. A car in the sky.
So far, so good.
Next stop Amsterdam airport.
