Well we hit the ground running, straight off the red eye, taxi to hotel to drop off bags, then first to the Rockefeller Centre at around 8.30. With my mouth feeling like it had been hoovered and my legs trying to buckle and my brain screaming don’t get in the lift (I don’t mind being in them its the overriding fear it’s gonna break down) forward I went. The first lift is just two floors to the exhibition floor, and then a cheery person greets you, one hit on the button and you get whooshed up 67 floors! With a glass ceiling so you can see all the workings and pretty flashing lights. Great views from the top, but the lift back down seemed much slower. Still then it was off to the Staten Island Ferry to see the green lady we did a round trip - which usually means getting off the ferry then straight back on again but unfortunately the driver hit the side of the dock so we had to switch boats. I spent the next day shopping, and JB sulked - it was a day of record rainfall and very windy, and despite the fact he was

the one with the hooded waterproof jacket off I went! and much fun it was too. Next day we met up with the very lovely Doug (NBF from 2nd week in Thailand) and he was as such good company, and certainly knew where to get a damn fine martini! Far too many drinks later, we found ourselves singing round a piano, me very badly and everyone else singing very well - no change there then! So we spent the last day nursing a hangover, as neither one of us could stand the idea of being on a bus we walked through Central Park, it was a lovely warm day and by the afternoon we had found a bar that was showing football, recovered in time to catch plane home! Greeted at Heathrow by the most beautiful girl in the world & not the most handsome guy! sorry Steve but it’s as it is! The darlings had brought along a cool box full of our favourite goodies (cava, strawberries, chocolate, spicy prawns & nibbles how very lovely, we had a fab barbie, the sun was full on! Now the good news for me is I have my very own MacBook -

the bad news for everyone I email is JB no longer is editing them.
New York really was good fun, after pretending we lived on the west coast it was nice to get back to some touristing. Good job we had nowhere to go on our first day otherwise we may have gone to bed after the red-eye, as it was we walked manically through the city seeing the sights. The next day I may as well have stayed in bed, it pissed down with record rainfall. B has tried to tell you I sulked, not so, I absorbed NY’s finest daytime TV, had a few vodkas and did online research re. getting her MacBook. And stayed dry! Meeting up with Doug was really great, sort of tied up the whole trip as we’d met him only 8 days after starting this trip. Obviously had far too much to drink but were past caring. The last days hangover was dealt with by taking a walk through Central Park till we felt able to rehydrate in a bar where I managed to catch a bit of World Cup footie. Result! Went to the Apple Store to get B’s new toy where

Taken from the Ferry
my card was promptly declined, a couple of angry phone calls later all was resolved, so off to get the cab to JFK. Apparently there was some big celebration going on the next day uptown so loads of routes out were closed. Never mind it made for an interesting drive through some pretty sketchy parts of the city that we probably wouldn’t have otherwise seen.
Off to some pretty town in the Cotswolds next, I’ll let you know how that is in the next entry
