The view of new york leavig on the boat to the Statue of Liberty
We had another early start this morning so that we could catch the subway to the ferry terminal and see the Statue of Liberty. We got on a ferry and cruised to Liberty Island where the statue is. We walked around the base of the statue and took some nice photos (which we are gutted we have lost!) then the ferry took us to Ellis Island and then back to New York.
After we got off the ferry we walked to the the site of where the Twin Towers were. They have put in a memorial for the fire fighters that lost their lives, and they are building another memorial which will open this year on September 11th because it will have been 10 years. It was so sad and both of us had tears in our eyes when we saw the fire fighters memorial. It happened to be a day that they were doing tours for people who had loved ones who died that day, so their were TV cameras and lots of people around.
We then caught the subway back uptown and walked to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Rach left her camera in the toilet when we first

and again
got there, so we went straight away to see if anyone had handed it in. They hadn't, so we were told to come back when the museum was closing. We walked around most of the 1st floor, seeing all sorts of pottery, sculptures and other art - Greek and Roman, European, Arms and Armour, American, Medieval, and Egyptian. It took us a long time to get through the 1st floor because there was so much to see, so we only looked at some sections on the 2nd floor. When the museum was closing we went down to see if the camera had been handed in and unfortunately it hadn't so they told us to call the next day.
We walked back to the hostel and Michael left to catch his flight and we headed back to Penn Station to catch the 8pm train back to Hamilton Station, where Susan was picking us up to take us back to her place
