Thousands of kilometres, many hours of air travel, and 4 in-flight movies later, Lauren, Cally and I arrive in New York City, bleary eyed but extremely excited. We were all high on finishing two of the more difficult rotations in the final year of medicine, with nothing but 8 weeks of non-stress inducing elective ahead.
Our first night was spent fighting extreme fatigue and jet lag - and what better to do that with than a wood-fired New York pizza and a bottle of red wine.
The next day was spent gaining some perspective on this town that never sleeps. On top of the Rock - Rockefeller Tower that is. Even the golden Prometheus that resides over the ground floor cafe cum wintry skating rink would've been envious of these sorts of views.
This was followed by gaining insight into other people's perspective of life.... and art....... or just weird installations of shadow dancing video and elaborate staring competitions. However, there were some pieces worth seeing; namely, Picasso, Matisse, Van Gogh, Pollock..... and okay, Klimt too.
The rest of the day was spent exploring this island metropolis, shopping and eating. Culminating in a tapas bar in Chelsea,
Pizzeria
On Houston St and 2nd Aveimbibing ourselves with a few jugs of sangria and savouring spanish inspired mini dishes of chorizo, patatas and jamon. A perfect segue into my Latin American / Peruvian leg of the journey next.
