Today

is our third day here and we’ve been really busy so far. Our apt. is really cute- really tiny-but cute. We are subletting from a gay guy who is moving in with his partner but hanging on to his place. It’s a studio with a Murphy bead (it folds out of the wall). The place is set up with dimming lights, a 300 -disc cd player filled with discs and organized by genre, and Buddha statues everywhere. We are on the upper west side so we are about a 10 to 20 min subway ride to the heart of the city, depending on the destination.

So far we have done a lot of window shopping in different parts of the city - my favorite being soho and nolita (above little Italy). There are lots of boutiques and cafes here with things you can’t get anywhere else. There is one store that is set up with small booths showcasing upcoming designers. The designers make their own clothes, jewelry, ect., and set up a small booth where they show and sell their own pieces. There are about 25 designers in the entire space. If any of you come visit

This is a pretty big closet, thank god.
we are definitely going here to shop.

On

Friday

night we went to Kory’s school and had a five course vegan meal that was prepared by the graduating class before him. The food was amazing and really cheap because Kory is a student there. After dinner we went out in the meat packing district to several bars and clubs. One, called five nine is in an old two story house and has no signs on the outside so you wouldn’t even know it was a bar. You just walk up the steps and in the front door - and poof you are in a bar! Another cool one was called Level V, an underground bar with lots of little caves where people would have semi- private parties. There was also one on the top floor of a hotel and from the balcony you could see the entire city! At a few of these places we had to wait in line and people in front of us kept getting turned away, but we figured it was worth a shot so we played cool and tried to get in. Well it must have been our lucky night because we got

We just thought this was a particularly good picture of you.
in everywhere we tried! All in all it was a very successful first night out on the town.

We have eaten out for almost every meal, which won’t last long. The food has been amazing at every restaurant - and all vegan friendly! There is even a hole in the wall Italian place that makes ‘natural’ vegetarian and vegan pizza!

Today we perused Fifth Avenue and went to the original Saks Fifth Avenue. We also checked out Rockefeller Plaza where there were people ice skating and tourists taking pictures everywhere. Then we went to China Town, which was absolutely packed with people selling everything from produce to dragon figurines to cashmere scarves. It was insane - just as you would imagine it to be. On the way home we stopped by a store called moo shoes, which carries all vegan shoes and accessories. It was really cool and something you would only find in NY. (none of the shoes compared to my vegan boots though).

We are home now and cooking dinner for the first time (or Kory is at least). All of the running around is pretty tiring and the subway system is a little crazy and will take some time to really figure out. We have done a lot of walking around and between trying to stay warm and dodging crazy taxi drivers that has been really tiring too. We are always on the go and having a lot of fun - the possibilities are endless here!

You guys are funny
Kaspar and Tatonka...what's the meaning behind the names first of all? Second, where's my picture on the travel log? Sounds like you guys are doing well. I got hungry all of the sudden when you spoke of the dining there. Keep in touch. Jeremy
