In the beginning...
OK folks- well we did it, well we started it anyway. After a few nervous moments and a lot of re packing of the bags we finally made it on the first leg of our journey. In the spirit of really getting into the backpacker spirit, we are easing ourselves into the new lifestyle (but are currently in our first youth hostel of the trip). This is a bit of a delayed update, we have already "done" New York and have arrived safely in Canada (despite the torrential rain and thunderstorms just as we were trying to land! - mum ignore that - it was fine! Honest!!)
We will provide more detailed updates but in summary we have walked approximately 22,000 miles already (or it feels like it), we have been "travelling" for a week tomorrow although it feels like at least a month already and we are turning into cheap backpackers by getting up in time for the free breakfast pancakes this morning!
Valuable lessons to date:
1) Never turn down food- you never know where the next meal is coming from
2) Feet hurt lots after lots and lots of walking
3) Getting a taxi from the airport is not strictly allowed on a back packer budget
4) If its free, take it
5) Wine tours around Niagara cost tons!
6) What's a budget again?
7) Feel really sorry for tortoises- they have to carry everything with them
8) Going to New York without a shopping budget is quite painful
9) How are other travelling people so young??
Hope that everyone is doing well back home and we miss you all lots (not - only joking!)
