We were up bright and early Thursday morning, as we‘re being picked up for our trip to Woodbury Common. A premium outlet centre located upstate NY in Central Valley, that has a Disney discount store. The traffic out of town was quite good as we travelled along Sully’s landing strip aka the Hudson River. It wasn’t to long and we were surrounded by National Parks. The tree leaves were starting to change colour and looked beautiful. We had 6 hours to shop and with map in hand we were off. After 5 hours and 30 mins we were shopped out (OK the Credit Cards weren‘t going to work anymore) I always knew this would be a budget blower for us.
Thursday night we headed to Times Square to see Hamilton. This Show has been on my ’must see list’ since I saw a few of its songs performed on a Tony Award show a few years ago. Hamilton is a hip hop musical about the life of American founding father Alexander Hamilton. Lin-Manuel Miranda wrote the lyrics and music for this amazing show. I was blown away by the staging, cast and the songs. Rumour has it, a tour of
Hamilton will be coming to Australia. It’s about to open in London this December. I highly recommend you see it. I‘ll definitely will be seeing it again.
Friday’s the first day we had no booked plans. We enjoyed a well earned sleepin and decided to head out in search of a US Post office, as they’ve released a Disney Villian stamp collection set for Halloween. We found the main post office behind Madison Square Garden and had passed it a few times but were unaware It was a post office. The building was massive with stairs up to the front doors and looked like a museam. We were told the building is a heritage building and is currently being restored.
We’ve become experts in travelling around on the subway, however nothing prepares you for when there’s a problem on the line up ahead and you are told to get off the train (literally) the following is for my work colleges enjoyment. There was one announcement to say the train was terminating and to leave the train. The doors were then closed after less than one minute. Customers were still on the train. The driver changed ends and as
he walked along the platform he tapped his keys on the windows and motioned to the customers inside to move through the train with him, so they can exit the train. Can you imagine if this happened in Sydney....OMG! After being stranded on a platform we had to change direction and discovered some adorable little figures. They are a public art installation called Life Underground by Tom Otterness. There’s over 100 of them.
Our next stop was to visit the New York Library. I was fortunate enough to visit the Library in 2012 when I was travelling with Caroline and wanted to show Mum. We’re huge Mathew Reilly fans and he based his book The Contest in the Library. While we were in the Library Mum discovered they had a Winnie the Pooh collection on display. Being a Pooh collecter we had to check it out.
We thought as the weather was cooling a little we’d go and check out the Highl Line in the Meatpacking district and see the sunset. The High Line is a long elevated linear park, greenway and rail trail just over 2km. It’s created on a disused railroad spur on the West Side
of Manhattan. They have done a wonderful Job and highly recommend visiting if you are in New York.

Sounds great
Hamilton obviously met your expectations. I'll have to go if it comes here. The library sounds great too.
