Nous avons passé la 12ième écluse lundi matin le 7 nov après une nuit à quai au NY Welcome Centre à Waterford, NY qui était censée avoir toutes les commodités, selon le gardien d’écluse, mais quand nous sommes arrivés à la noirceur, il y avait seulement le quai, tout le reste avait été endommagé par l’ouragan Irene en août et cette nuit là, c’est descendu -3C et à 8C dans la cabine; quand on s’est levé dimanche matin, il y avait plein de brume sur l’eau et de la gelée au sol!!! Heureusement, ce soir-là, nous avons atteint la Marina Hop-O-Nose située sur la petite rivière Catskill à l’embouchure de la rivière Hudson où nous avions réservé pour remâter; quel site enchanteur et depuis, c’est ensoleillé, calme et ça monte à 18C le jour. Eux aussi en sont encore à se remettre des dégâts laissés par l’ouragan Irene lorsque la rivière est montée de 12 pieds et l'eau dévalait à 50kmh. Aujourd'hui le 9 nov, notre 6ime journée s’achève; nous sommes assez fatigués merci mais fiers de nous. Ça nous a pris 2 jours pour remettre le mât, les voiles, rebrancher l’électronique, nettoyer le bateau, tout fonctionne et Pegasus brille comme
un bijou, hurrah!!! Nous partirons tôt demain et espérons atteindre la ville de New York dans 3 jours. À bientôt au Time Square!!!
On monday Nov. 7th, we went through the 12th lock after a night spent at the NY Welcome Centre which was supposed to have showers, water and electricity, according to the lock keeper, but when we arrived there it had not recovered from Irene and there was nothing but a place to tie up; alas, that night the temp went down to -3C outside and 8C inside!! In the morning, the river was covered in mist and frost was everywhere. That evening, we arrived at the Hop-O-Nose Marina (yes, that’s the name) on Catskill Creek at the Hudson River, where we had arranged to have the mast stepped; such a beautiful spot; no wind, and 18C for two days in a row; Irene hit this corner of the world very hard and the creek rose about 12 feet and had waters rushing by at 50kph.. On Nov 9th, we were on our 6th day and we are presently very tired from 2 days of adjusting the mast, hanking on the sails, reconnecting all the electronics and
cleaning so that everything works and Pegasus is shining. We hope to leave in the morning and be in the Big Apple in 3 days. See ya in Times Square, baby!
