August 20 Saturday, El Morrow-Albuquerque
Today I headed towards Albuquerque with a stop at the Bandera Volcano and the Ice Cave. It was another strenuous hike to the top again and the elevation was over 8,000 ft.
After visiting the volcano I visited the Ice cave. The natural “ice box” formed by the insulating lava rock fills with rainwater and snowmelt which freezes in the constant 31degree temperature.
After visiting the Ice Cave I drove on to Albuquerque and rented a room with a kitchen for the night. I stayed at the Suburban Extended Stay on Wellesley drive NE. It had a very good location close to I-40 but far enough away so there is no traffic noise. Also there is a Super Walmart just up the road on Carlisle. I will probably go by the office tomorrow and rent it for the week for $281 including tax. There is a lot to see and do in Albuquerque.
