Another long day with 5 miles of hill up 5000 ft, ok some really good down hill but do not understand why uphill is getting harder and not easier. Frank shepards me so I do not get too far behind. Not impressed with campsite at Globe.on community play ground, one loo each for men and women but no doors, hot water nor showers. Grim. Slept well but woke to sleet aneed rain

Left at 7.30 and severe uphill in rain was real eye wake up call. After early climb mostly flat thru Apache Indian reservations. Stopped for hot chocolate near Geronimo just to keep warm. Signs of chronic deprivation everywhere.. Continued to Safford but on arrival campsite closed so decamped to cheap motel which was welcome. As too windy to cook went to local Mexican takeaway. Was not impressed by the food as over cooked and wet. Another 78 miles clocked up and at 4500 foot

Friday left Safford and it was dry but cold. 40 miles uphil to Duncan to stop for ice cream. Still scrub but occ grass patches and saw cattle grazing. Last 20 miles into Lordburg became more and more difficult. KOA campsite was very basic with only one loo but did have a shower. Situated between railway line and main trunk road, a very noisy night but my coughing probably kept town awake.

Another cold night with temp below freezing. Meant to warm up by lunchtime Made our way back thru town to route 90 to Silver City. Not a long day of only 50 miles but lots of climbing as silver city above 7000 ft. Crossed the continental divide and passed memorial plaques to white settlers who had been shot and robbed by Indians in 1900 . Did not see any about Indians have ing their land taken from them. Had ice cream on apple pie at white signal.last 3 miles into silver city exhausted me. Taken to local hospital where multiple lung clots where diagnosed and started on anti coagulants. Almost certainly related to 11 hrs flight to San Diego .unable to continue as risks of a fall on anticoagulants too great for Adventurcycling as a head injury could cause massive internal bleeding. Will stay with group as far as El Paso Texas then flight to Dallas to connect to Heathrow. ThankYou for reading John logan
