The rocks around the lake were very strange. Old volcanic activity. Looked like poured cement...
Final days at Elephant Butte....

Really enjoyed this place, great views, awesome spot for Kona. We stayed 4 nights mid week and into Saturday. Mid week was the time to be there, very few people around. As Friday crept along and into Saturday park traffic picked up and the RV's started rolling in. This is their off season, there was probably 15 groups we could see by the time we left, still to many for us... Park brochure said for Memorial Day weekend the park (...over a 40 mile lake) swells to 100,000 visitors...yikes

here are some photo's of our final days at the Butte

Remember that pile of firewood...its gone. As we call them in the Plante household...rip-snorta's! For any newcomers to this term...its how we like our fires...ripping and snorting.
