In anticipation of our trip out west to Lake Powell we have been trying to get our arms prepared by doing some paddling close to home. We decided to head out to Abiquiu Reservoir which is about an hour north of Santa Fe.

The drive there is beautiful as you head out into the red rock country. You pass through several Indian pueblos along the way and you cross the Rio Grande and follow along the Chama to get to Abiquiu. Wonderful ride!

Decided we wanted to launch from the boat ramp to make it easier to get in and out. We had gone to yoga class that morning so we did not get out onto Abiquiu until around 2:00pm. Nonetheless it was a glorious day. The sun was shining and we had the ravens calling back and forth around us as we paddled along. We had some small raptor fly close to use and then disappeared over the hill.

Had a great time and then packed up and headed for home. Had an extra treat as we headed back toward Santa Fe; there was a full moon rising over the mountains as we drove along. Very special moment and a great way to end the day.
