This Jersey Girl is riding to the home grown state today!! After packing up the home office and getting all our food out of the neighboring flower shops refrigerator, we had route meeting in the back parking lot of the office--where I have frequented in my car over the years and I still can't believe that now I'm on a trip again and rode here, and get to keep riding! We are joined by some local alum, as well as some of the home office staff that is going to ride and/or drive our vans for us today so we can have more of our riders on the road today. Lily and I have been looking forward to riding together since she left us in Miami so today is the day!! We recruit Raffi and Carly ... read more

So I’m down to 5 days until lift off and I am extremely excited. On the other hand, I feel kind of funny because classes started last Tuesday at Rutgers and I’m just hanging out waiting for my departure next week. Granted I have not been just sitting around doing nothing, but I’m not used to having a different schedule from my friends…or no schedule at all really. The weirdest feeling has been walking around campus and being the oldest one, knowing I’m in my last year and will really only have one semester left at Rutgers after I return from London. I finally feel a sense of connection, pride, and comfort with Rutgers since I finally know how everything works now and have mastered the bus routes, but the year is going to fly by ... read more

So it’s a bit brisk here in Sunny Piscataway. But right now it’s not the arctic circle or anything. It was quite nice and sunny when I got up, and the walk from the hotel to the office was only marginally longer than my usual walk to work in Sydney. It’s a couple of big buildings, a lot of VZB people here, in a big suburban business park. At least they don’t all work from home every day. Another blast from the past, I met Alex in Europe many years ago, I especially remember a meeting a load of us had in Holland. One of the good guys, it was nice to see him again. I spent the day catching up with lots of people - mostly engineers - who I’d worked with over the phone ... read more

T-MINUS 3 Days....Preparing for Departure On Thursday 5/18/06 I will be heading out of New Brunswick, NJ, my home of the last 3 years and driving across the great US of A to California. Driving across the nation is an adventure I have always thought about but never dreamed of seriously undertaking because I felt it was socially irresponsible…However, a month ago I was (amazingly) offered a seasonal park ranger position in Yosemite National Park. And so the adventure begins…. My friend/neighbor/coworker Reece decided to embark on the journey with me. I sent away for tons of maps, “TravelBooks”, “CampBooks”, and a super-cute, personalized “TripTik” from AAA. The quality of these materials is impressive, and the TripTik is great—it’s a personalized bound booklet of a suggested route from New Brunswick, NJ to Yosemite National Park, ... read more
