We spent just one night at the Holiday Inn Express in Vicksburg, Mississippi. See we had been living in Tuscaloosa, AL for about nine months and just wanted a night away. So we decided on Vicksburg because of the small factory outlet mall and the five major casinos that are there. We left Tuscaloosa rather early in the morning and stopped in Meridian, MS, took the dog into PetCO and we went to Ross Dress For Less for a few minutes and then we all were back on the road. We had one other quick stop at the Flying J in Jackson for fuel and that was about it.

It took about 31/2 to 4 hours to get to Vicksburg from Tuscaloosa. We checked into the hotel around 1:00 pm. We were a little bit early, but they let us into the room anyway, which I thought was nice of them. There have been times n the past when we have tried to check into a room early and they say “no.” The room was very clean with a LCD, 32’ television in it. There were two queen-sized beds, a large work (office) area and a spacious bathroom. It appeared

that the hotel was either new or had just been remodeled. The front desk staff was knowledgeable on places to eat and where to shop, if we liked. Of course, our first pick was to go to the casinos. Our first casino was the Riverwalk, which is where we also dined at in their huge buffet. The night that we chose to eat there was seafood night. The food was fresh, very good and the service was also exceptional. After the Riverwalk, we went to a neighboring casino which was walking distance. It was interesting because these two casinos, both on the river had barges floating by. Someone informed me that it was either fuel or trash in those barges. We also visited Diamond Jack’s, The Rainbow Casino and yes the huge Ameristar. Overall, we had a wonderful time in Vicksburg for the brief stay that we spent there.

On the way back that night, we noticed that the Factory Outlet Mall in Vicksburg was still open. Wow, did we find some good deals in there. The Bass Outlet store had some of the best prices that I had seen in a long time.

Our stay in Vicksburg was quite enjoyable and if in that area would return and stay again at the Holiday Inn Express. Don’t forget the hotel’s great complimentary breakfast in the morning.
