Infamous Gene Morris
I thought this was great a Spear Hunting Musuem. This is located roughly an hour south of Mobile, AL although I assume you already knew that. 2/5/07
The next morning I decided to do laundry. I drove to Gulf Shores to do it. It was amazing as pretty much everbody I ran into was retired. That’s true for all of Florida as well. One guy who was in his 80’s was watching his laundry. We talked for awhile. He is from Minnesota. I told him that is such a beautiful place and asked him rhetorically why would anyone leave there!
After getting back to the campsite I rode my bike on a nice trail. It however is only about 6 miles long. They have plans in the works to expand the trail. It seems like trails in the South are much better than what we have back home, but then again I have not looked too hard into finding trails in the St. Louis area. Grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.
I decided to drive to Mobile, AL and check that out. Mardi Gras actually started in Mobile and I thought I might get to participate in some of that. Their didn’t appear to be much Mardi Gras stuff going on for the couple days I would be there, so
Spear Hunting Musuem
Have you ever heard of this place? Me neither. I decide not to stay. I did stop at a Motel in downtown Mobile to use their wifi for awhile. I wasn’t overly impressed by Mobile, but I didn’t spend much time their either. As I drove south out of Mobile I looked for another spot to sleep. I found a Wal-Mart that looked very good, but I really wanted a bed as I was extremely tired. I checked a few motels, but couldn’t find anything for less than $50. Consequently, I continued driving south hoping to find something farther away from Mobile. I couldn't find anything and ended up driving into Pascalouga in hopes their, would be inexpensive lodging. Finally, I settled on a Wal-Mart parking lot in Ocean Springs, AL.

About 2:00 am I heard the security guard park near me. I got out of the truck and went over and asked him if everything was ok. He said yep. I asked him if their was a problem with me parking and sleeping their and he said no he did not see a problem. I said good and went back to bed. After leaving Ocean Springs I traveled towards Biloxi. In Biloxi I checked out
Big Gene
Holding the big man's spear. I hear this is the actual size of Gene and his spear a couple casinos. At the one casino called Boomtown, I decided to have lunch. I had a fried shrimp and oyster hoagie. It wasn’t too bad and really the price wasn’t that bad either. It was about 2:00 in the afternoon and I decided to head towards Gulfport. You could see some definite effects of Katrina in Biloxi. I didn’t even know they had been hit. I did swing by a harbor to check out some shrimp/oyster boats. The docks were all tore up, which I assumed was from Katrina. The workers there were all asian and the conversations I overheard were not in English so I decided not to talk to them. As I approached Gulfport the damage was more pronounced. I saw what looked like a nice hotel that might be cheap and it wasn’t too bad. The price was $54 / night. It was 3:00 in the afternoon and I needed sleep so I decide to splurge for a room. I immediately went in and crashed for about 1.5 hours. I then decided to work on my travel blog since I had internet access. At 7:00 decided to run to Winn-Dixie for supper. I heard a commercial
Emerald Coast
I ciphered the area around the Gulf in Mississippi and Alabama is called the Emerald Coast. You see this reference made a lot. I had heard of the Emerald Coast just didn't know this was it. for American Idol and tried to hurry to get back to watch that. I like that show. I then ate and watched Idol for awhile and got back on the Journal. I worked on the Journal until about 11:30 and went to bed.
