Day 4 - June 30, 2016
Boy it feels great to wake up and be able to shower without using quarters! This has been our favorite campsite so far. And even though I still woke up early we don't have to hit the road right away because Bloomington, MN is only about 4 hours away. Mary is most excited! But we're all reading up about the mall and looking forward to it. We're not huge shoppers but we love touristy attractions and rides, etc. So Mall of America will be a fun experience! Kai said it sits on over 96 acres of land! Disneyland in California sits on 80+ acres. I was in Bloomington back in 1995 when I lived in Minnesota for two months of youth director training so Geoff and I have been there - before having children. It will be awesome to be there with our 4 kids! And the biggest bonus - Geoff will find us here on Friday!!!
We had a relaxing morning - finally. Even fried up some bacon! 😊 Today was our first time dumping the RV and filling it with water - it's amazing all the responsibility Geoff handles on our
camping trips. He'll be glad his boys now know how to do them (and me too)!
We caught up on household chores because the captain's coming tomorrow - we want to look good!! The boys got to dump the RV for the first time - can’t do that without quoting some movie lines from “RV” - “Whatcha need is a hose-spreader!” “I’ll get the tortil-la chips!” They did great. We washed everything up and packed up Spirit. (That’s our motorhome’s name, “Spirit”). Said goodbye to Yogi and took off to get the rig washed. What we didn’t know was the Rhino Truck Wash was a custom job. They washed it for us and for $50. But Spirit looked beautiful!….then we got on I-90 again, bugs on the windshield, again. But after driving over 1,600 Miles it was still worth the 50 bucks even for a moment of sparkly clean!
Then we headed from Sioux Falls, SD to Albert Lea, MN. Jaedon drove first. We ate at DQ in Jackson, MN. The hardest part of my drive was just ahead. We got onto North 35 Highway just fine. It was good until we got close to the
Twin Cities because the time of day in the Central Time Zone was RUSH HOUR! I panicked a little. We got a little turned around and got off the highway on to some side roads. I didn’t even see the bump coming - the road looked flat - good ol’ Spirit hit the bumpy road like the old General Lee from Dukes of Hazards - she was bouncy and free - the kids were airborne for a second or two. Then it all calmed down - but I was a wreck. As soon as I saw the Mall of America I made to left turns into a parking area - parked at the far side and that’s where she stayed. I was DONE! Come and get us, Geoff! We cleaned ourselves up (and calmed me down), thanked God for His help and provision and love, and on to the Mall of America we went.
The mall’s enormous. We walked around and bought a few snacks. Did the Maze of Mirrors - silly and fun. Enjoyed spending lots of dough at the Lego Store and the Crayola Store - who knew crayons could be so expensive??
After all the day’s excitement I couldn’t get to sleep fast enough. But of course the kids had rested all day and they were WOUND UP! That made Mommy not a happy camper. Eventually they figured out if they wanted to do rides at the mall tomorrow they better go to sleep. Love and logic and sweet dreams! Night, night 😊
