Holland, Michigan is unique among most cities of this size (around 35 000)that we are aware of.

The city is laid out in a grid system and most of the major streets have a dedicated biking/walking path along one side of the street. These streets extend to rural farm lands.

Starting at Lake Michingan these major north south streets have bike paths:

Lake Shore Drive
168th Avenue
152 Avenue
Division Street
136th Avenue
120th Avenue
112th Avenue
104th Avenue
State Street
88th Avenue
96th Avenue
88thAvenue

From the North and moving South these east west streets have paths:

Quincy Street
Riley Street
James Street
Lakewood Blvd
Ottawa Bech Road
South Shore Drive
Paw Paw Drive
Adams Street
32nd Street

Running diagonally is Butternut Drivewhich connects to Lake Shore Drive which begins at Holland State Park and runs to Grand Haven (see separate blog)/b].

The above are just the MAIN and LONGEST streets. There are many, many more streets not mentioned.

The paths extend into the nearby community of Zeeland.

Holland also has an abundance of parks located along many of these streets with ample parking and washrooms.

Some of the parks are:

Ransom Park, Tunnel Park, Quincy Street Park,
Helder Park, Wendt park, Huizenga park,
Winstrom Park, Fairgrounds, Dunton Park,
Van Raalte Farm Park,Kolen Park, Holland State Park
Window on the Waterfront, .... and more.

The paths are smooth and wide enough for 2 people to ride side by side.

There are also other paths that extend away from Holland that we have not had a chance to bike.

You could spend a week here and not bike all of the dedicated paths.
